Not too far from central Tokyo, and I was amazed to find such breathtaking views. I was able to enjoy a truly special getaway with hardly any encounters with other guests. The meal portions were just right, and the fish was outstanding! The bath and hospitality were flawless. I’d definitely love to stay again.

The food was exceptionally delicious, and each dish reflected the chef’s dedication and careful craftsmanship. The seasoning and presentation were outstanding, making it a delight for both the eyes and the palate. The high quality of the cuisine left a lasting impression, and it made for a truly satisfying stay.

I never expected to find such an exceptionally refined Ryokan in the quiet seaside town of Esashi. From the moment you step inside, there’s a sense of quality in the air, and the staff’s attentive, warm hospitality gently eases away any travel fatigue. The cuisine fully showcases the blessings of Esashi’s sea and land, with care and artistry evident in every dish. The seafood freshness, in particular, is outstanding—I truly felt the authentic flavor you can only experience by eating it here in Hokkaido. Overall, Ryotei Gunrai is an Accommodation so complete that the stay itself feels like a work of art. I’ve visited many Accommodations across Hokkaido, but personally I consider this my No. 1 Ryokan in Hokkaido. This was my second stay, and it confirmed it. The tranquility, cuisine, and service are all harmonized at a remarkably high level—an extraordinary place that makes you certain you’ll want to return again.

Its kaleidoscopic beauty resonates deeply in the heart. Exquisitely prepared with sincere care, the cuisine is truly delicious. A beautiful garden that reflects the seasons—so captivating you could gaze at it forever. Elegant summer décor that lets you fully experience Kyoto’s traditional culture. Hanging scrolls, ikebana, and a beautifully arranged Room down to every detail. The head chef, attendants, the young proprietress, and the proprietress herself offer warm, attentive hospitality with genuine grace. Thinking that all of this beauty is an expression of love for each guest fills me with freshness and gratitude. At Kikkawa, you can feel the refined spirit of Kyoto—an appreciation for making everyday life beautiful and joyful. It began as an Accommodation I hoped to stay at at least once in my life; before I knew it, this was my 11th visit. A superb culinary Ryokan I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who truly loves Kyoto.

I’ve stayed at many ryokan and hotels, but this was the number one property for me. The baths were spotless and felt very clean. The amenities also showed thoughtful attention to detail. The meals were delicious, and the staff were polite, attentive, and very kind. It was one of the few places that truly made me want to come back again.

I had been curious about Ochiairo for a long time, and this time we were finally able to stay as a family of four. Seeing the striking plant-dyed noren hanging at the entrance truly made my heart leap. After we arrived, we were shown to the lounge, where we could freely enjoy drinks and sweets. The Room was beautifully appointed with a wonderful sense of tradition, and we could also see the garden from the Room—an incredibly calming experience. The free-flowing hot spring bath by the river was outstanding, and in particular, the open-air bath where you can bathe in swimwear was something our family enjoyed together while chatting. The cuisine was also excellent—each dish carefully prepared down to the smallest detail, with a comforting warmth throughout. Especially memorable was the sakura shrimp at breakfast; it was so delicious that I ended up having three extra bowls of rice. The Ryokan staff’s hospitality was exceptionally attentive, making our stay thoroughly pleasant. In every respect, this is a first-class Accommodation. It is well worth traveling just to stay at Ochiairo. We even made our next Reservation during our stay. It was such a wonderful Accommodation that it made me want to make it our regular place—no, I will. Thank you for such a lovely time.

We stopped by on our way back from a memorial interment and were completely exhausted, but this Accommodation was satisfying in every way and truly helped us unwind. Although it is a little far from the station, it is surrounded by greenery, and we also liked the natural, not overly manicured garden. The facilities and service were attentive, and we appreciated having pajamas provided in addition to yukata. The spacious indoor bath that can also be enjoyed like a semi-open-air bath was wonderful. The bedding was very comfortable, and even my husband from Kansai praised the meals highly. I had little appetite, but I was still able to enjoy the food. All of the staff were warm and welcoming, making this an Accommodation our whole family was happy with. Thank you for taking such good care of us—we would love to visit again.

The Room design—especially the toilet layout and its combination with the washroom—was fantastic and I really loved it. The material of the in-room bath (I forgot the name) was made from very high-quality wood, and the wood fragrance was wonderful. Beer, ice pops, and water were all free, which was excellent service. The large public bath in the main building was also spacious and free to use—overall, it was simply great.

This was my first stay here. From the moment I arrived at the Hotel, the staff’s hospitality at the entrance was so attentive that it’s impossible to compare with other hotels. When I entered my Room, it was spotless—not a speck of dust—and I was truly impressed by the outstanding skill of the housekeeping team. In the evening, I used in-room dining and had grilled vegetables, soup, and focaccia. Everything was absolutely delicious and genuinely moving. If you stay here, I highly recommend trying in-room dining. This time I booked a Plan with breakfast included, so I enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant on the first floor. There were three options to choose from, and I felt it’s a menu loved by guests of all ages. I traveled here from Tohoku, and it took quite a bit of time and money—but this was an exceptional Hotel that still made me think, “I want to stay here anyway!” Thank you very much for taking such great care of me during my stay.

I found this ryokan while looking for a place where my elderly mother could relax at her own pace. Although it is a long-established inn, the furnishings and ikebana arrangements were tasteful and never felt old-fashioned. The room and bath were spotless down to every corner, so we were able to stay in complete comfort. The ocean view filling the entire window was wonderfully calming. True to its name as a kappo ryokan, every dish was outstanding. I was especially moved by the uni tofu appetizer. The beautiful tableware made the experience feel even more luxurious. By the time dessert came, we were too full, so they kindly prepared it for us in the refrigerator in our room. Every staff member greeted us with warm smiles and attentive service that made us feel at ease. I think this is an ideal place for anyone who wants to spend quiet, unhurried time.

We stayed here on a family trip and were very satisfied with the Onsen, the meals, and the hospitality of all the staff! The dishes made with plenty of seasonal ingredients were especially outstanding. The staff kindly explained where the ingredients came from, and the tableware and presentation felt perfectly autumnal, allowing us to enjoy the season with both our eyes and our palate. We were also able to relax in the Onsen at our leisure, which helped melt away our fatigue. The hospitality was wonderful, and we would definitely like to return.

Although the weather was poor throughout due to the typhoon, it actually made for an almost private stay. My daughter had seen it in a magazine and was looking forward to it, and it was just as relaxing as we had hoped. The hot stone spa, baths, and meals were all exactly as described in the magazine and brochures—nothing to complain about—but above all, the staff’s thoughtfulness was outstanding, and even with just one night we were able to relax both physically and mentally. I was coming down with a slight cold, so I truly appreciated the front desk lady’s subtle kindness and concern. The next day brought clear skies for the first time in a while, and breakfast while enjoying the wonderful ocean view was amazing. Thank you also for accommodating our request during the ride back to the station by stopping at a nearby popular bakery.

I have stayed at this Accommodation many times, and it was excellent. The meals, baths, views, and Room—everything was completely satisfying. The recent renovation that made it possible to enjoy the view while dining was a nice improvement, but it was a bit uncomfortable making eye contact with guests heading to the baths during the meal.

This was my first stay at NIPPONIA Chichibu Monzenmachi, and I stayed in Room 102 of the MARUJU building. Room 102 is a maisonette-style guest room created by converting an entire kura storehouse, so I had been genuinely looking forward to it even before arriving. When I arrived, the staff welcomed me with warm smiles and excellent service, and check-in was accompanied by explanations about the property’s history and unique features. I was then shown to Room 102. The door wasn’t new—it was the original one from when it was a storehouse—so I felt excited even before stepping inside. As soon as I opened the door with high expectations, I found myself in a truly unique, extraordinary space. With its open atrium design, the first floor is a living area; climbing the original ladder from its storehouse days leads to the second-floor bedroom. It’s such a spacious room that it feels like it could be two separate rooms across two levels. The nostalgic atmosphere comes from how beautifully it blends preserved beams and walls from the past with modern comfort. The hinoki cypress bath I had been looking forward to was larger and deeper than expected. Even before filling it, the pleasant scent of hinoki filled the bathroom; once hot water was added, the aroma became even richer, making it wonderfully relaxing even without hot-spring water. Dinner—something I had eagerly awaited—was truly delicious from appetizers to main course to dessert. You could also feel great attention paid not only to plating but also to every piece of tableware used. The course featured plenty of locally sourced ingredients; while it goes without saying that both venison and river fish were excellent, I was especially impressed by how thoughtfully they brought out the flavors of local vegetables and by how outstanding each sauce tasted. It’s hard to describe well from appetizer through main course, but every dish looked unlike what you’d expect—and each bite delivered a delightful surprise. Breakfast offered a complete change of pace: traditional Japanese cuisine. The assortment of small side dishes let me enjoy many different flavors, and the classic miso soup was exceptional. As an old folk-house hotel, it has an abundance of nostalgic charm while still being impeccably clean. With wonderful food and genuinely hospitable staff, this became a Chichibu trip that left me completely satisfied.

Both the building and the garden are beautifully maintained—truly an Accommodation worthy of its status as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. At Tenpyo-no-Yu, we were able to relax and enjoy the Onsen while watching the carp. The cuisine may be creative, but in a way it felt fairly ordinary; despite the excellent wasabi served alongside, I didn’t feel the menu was designed to pair well with it. Perhaps because it had to be carried a long distance, some hot dishes arrived cooled, and there were so many items that we ended up leaving some, which was a bit disappointing. I thought it might be nice to have an upgraded course with smaller portions. There are many stairs, so it may be challenging for guests with limited mobility.

We were completely satisfied with everything—the room, the private hot spring, and the staff! What impressed us most was the food. The soy sauce kaiseki meal—this was the first time in my life I truly savored soy sauce like this! Every ingredient was delicious. We were more than satisfied. Breakfast was also perfectly seasoned to bring out the natural flavors, and we couldn’t stop eating rice. It’s a long, long trip from Nagoya via Awaji Island, but we’d love to visit again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The observatory where we looked up at the night sky was a wonderful experience, made even better by the clear and easy-to-understand explanations from the young female guide. Thank you very much. However, the bathroom sink drain in our room was clogged and barely drained at all. Please improve this.

Thank you for taking care of us again in a Room with an open-air bath. The Room has beds, and at the back there is a spacious armchair where you can sit and relax while looking out at the garden. I was able to unwind there, enjoying tea and reading quietly. With the beds, it was also easy to lie down and rest right away, which gave me a reassuring sense of comfort. Last time we stayed over New Year’s with family, but this time it was wonderful to enjoy the garden as it shifted from summer into autumn while soaking in the open-air bath in the Room. Sanraku is also well known for its baths; in particular, the open-air baths are highly recommended, as you can feel even the natural breeze and soak amid beautiful mountain scenery. As for the cuisine, there has been a change of head chef, bringing a fresh new approach. While maintaining Sanraku’s original attentive Japanese cuisine that highlights seasonal ingredients, I could sense new ideas being introduced. Dishes were served freshly prepared, and it felt clear that great care is taken so guests never grow tired of what is offered. Our attendant provided detailed explanations of each dish and showed wonderful hospitality. An attendant who had looked after us previously also took the time to speak with us. The front desk and welcoming staff remembered our previous stay as well, making this an Onsen Ryokan where you can truly relax with peace of mind. I sincerely hope that such a hospitable Japanese Ryokan will continue its history for many years to come. As an IKYU Diamond member benefit, we received half a bottle of wine as well as shopping vouchers—great value tickets that could be used both for drinks at meals and for souvenirs. This is a Ryokan I would love to visit again.

This was my first stay at this Hotel, which offers the special opportunity to take part in Eiheiji’s zazen meditation and morning service. I was deeply moved by the cleansing, uplifting experience. In the stillness of early morning at Eiheiji, the crisp air filled the temple grounds; seeing so many trainee monks perform their service with such care, and the beauty of moss illuminated by the morning sun—these were all sights you can only experience because you are there so early, and because you stay overnight. I’m truly glad I came. The meals were also wonderful; even without meat or fish, I was completely satisfied by how delicious the vegetables were. The Room and bath were clean and well maintained, everything was spotless, and everyone at the Accommodation greeted us with warm smiles and attentive service—making this a trip I will never forget.

I was truly moved by your warm hospitality. This is an inn I would love to visit again. Because it’s a bit far from central Tokyo, I had admired it for a long time but hesitated—however, having the chance to stay for two nights this time, I’m so glad I finally decided to come. Not only were the location surrounded by deep mountain nature and the atmosphere of the property wonderful, but the view from the famous standing bath was absolutely breathtaking. The cuisine and facilities exceeded my expectations, but what stayed with me most was the thoughtful care shown by all of your staff. When my mother became carsick on the way, you promptly guided her to our room and even handled check-in there; and when we brought a portrait of my late father to dinner, you kindly prepared a glass and even an appetizer for him as well—I was deeply touched. Thank you for such exceptional hospitality that truly warmed my heart. I will definitely return in another season.
