Although slightly dated, it was a lovely Hotel. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and even though it was outside regular hours, they kindly gave a ride to the station for one person who had to leave early. The only disappointment was not being able to use the open-air bath with a great view. The baths switched between men and women the next morning, but I couldn't use it due to lack of time in the morning.

In conclusion, we stayed with two meals included, and it was absolutely the right choice. This is Hoshidare Accommodation. From the compact exterior, you enter using the password sent in advance by email, and you’re greeted by a wonderful entrance with white gravel! There are handwritten message cards from the manager everywhere, and although you don’t meet anyone in person, it really feels like a warm welcome. The Room was just the right size, and it also had a washer-dryer and a humidifying air purifier. Amenities included loungewear, yukata robes, and bathrobes—and it was my first time ever having two bath towels per person. Meals are self-serve for heating and plating, so we fumbled a bit at first, but preparing everything while chatting was fun too. The presentation was gorgeous, and there was more than enough food. I was worried about how many drinks would be available, but there were plenty as well. They even put a name label on our bottle of sparkling wine. I was impressed by how delicious the tap water was—smooth with no harshness at all. The bath is an alkaline hot spring with free-flowing source water; it was so amazing that I went in again and again. The hair dryer is Dyson—definitely exciting—and they also provided various face masks and lotions. The good-quality ice cream after dinner was pure bliss. Even the main dish at breakfast—the homemade Sendai beef stewed curry—was incredibly delicious... Overall it was fantastic, so I’d absolutely like to stay again. If I had to mention one thing: the pre-stay email arrived late morning on the day before check-in, which made me worry whether my Reservation had gone through—but since the site clearly says they’ll email by the day before, it’s not an issue. Also, I wasn’t sure which plate to use for curry—I hesitated over that one! I definitely want to come back again.

The bath and meals were excellent, but dinner is scheduled quite early. The only start times were 5:30 pm or 6:00 pm, and we were strongly pushed toward 5:30 pm. If we had known from the beginning that dinner would start at those times, we would have planned lunch accordingly. Since we ate a late lunch, we asked for a later time, but it wasn’t possible. At breakfast, while some guests were still eating, staff asked if anyone wanted more rice and then quickly began clearing the tables. We like to relax when traveling, so the rushed pace stood out. Aside from that, the food was delicious, the staff were all kind, and the location in the center of the Onsen town was great.

I stayed on a weekday. There was no wait at reception, and I was able to go to my Room smoothly. The Room is old, but it was properly cleaned and tidy. Amenities in each Room were limited to a toothbrush, towels, and a yukata, but there seemed to be more available in the Onsen changing room. Wi-Fi works, but when I ran a speed test the download speed was around 8 Mbps. Since it was about this fast on a quiet day, I wouldn’t expect much on busy days. For dinner, I chose the charcoal-grilled seafood set. It included crab, scallops, salmon, squid, vegetables, and also sashimi. Since there was udon included I didn’t ask for it, but it seems rice is provided as well. You can also order additional dishes or sake tasting sets for an extra charge. The Onsen felt like it was privately reserved just for me. It’s a great Onsen, and being able to use one of that size alone might actually be a rare opportunity. I think I saw other Reviews mentioning cold shower water; if it’s nearly private-use only, the pipes may have cooled down due to low usage. For about one minute only cold water came out, but after that it worked normally. The sauna did not seem to be available due to COVID-19 prevention measures. Overall, considering the Accommodation Fee level (value for money), this Hotel offers high satisfaction with dinner, breakfast (included), and the Onsen—great cost performance/value for money overall. The Facilities are somewhat dated throughout which is slightly noticeable; aside from that point my satisfaction level was high.

I’m glad I could enjoy visiting different baths. Since it’s a natural Onsen, I’d like to go again. The cherry blossoms nearby were beautiful too. Spring is highly recommended.

From the moment we arrived at the parking lot, the staff kindly guided us, and throughout our stay—from check-in at the front desk to meal times—every staff member was cheerful and welcoming, making us feel great! We stayed with our dog, and they were very kind to him as well. The facility seemed old but was very well-maintained and spotless—no issues at all! The meals were exceptional, starting with Yamagata beef for dinner and various small dishes. The breakfast buffet was of high quality with just the right variety of options. The bathwater was hot, but the spring quality was excellent! We appreciated being able to bring our dog into the dining area. If we have another opportunity, we would love to stay here again!

There are some things that make you think "a bit off" as mentioned in the reviews, but considering the cost performance and being able to stay with my beloved dog, I personally think this is the best accommodation! It’s definitely one of the accommodations I’d love to visit again.

Our group was 7 people (two families, including our grandchild) with four dogs. The only disappointing points about the amenities were that the bath towels smelled a little, and there were no skincare items such as lotion—so I’m glad we brought our own. However, there was plenty of information available on the TV, and among all the dog-friendly hotels we’ve stayed at, this was the best. The meals, Onsen, and activities were all available inside the Hotel, so we never got bored and had a very fulfilling stay—we were extremely satisfied. One night wasn’t enough, so next time we plan to stay for two nights. We were also very happy to have a buffet where we could dine with our dogs in a calm setting. I hope more Hotels like this will open in the future.

The best part was having free all-you-can-drink alcohol and other beverages available right in front of the reception after a long drive. The dinner buffet didn’t have an extensive variety, but it was satisfying, and here too, there was unlimited alcohol. The bath left my skin feeling smooth—such a great experience! Although the staff were foreigners, they were well-trained and very polite. If I had to mention one downside, it would be the weak Wi-Fi connection. Other than that, I was satisfied and would love to stay again!

You can see the sunrise from both the room and the bath. The weather was nice, so it was a beautiful view. The breakfast was delicious, and I had a very pleasant stay. Thank you very much!

We chose this Accommodation for our kids, who love buffets. The buffet used plenty of ingredients typical of Gunma Prefecture, which we found really interesting! The manga corner and table tennis were also a hit with the kids!

The interior had been nicely renovated. Some trash from the previous guest was left behind, so the cleaning was a bit disappointing, but we were still able to spend a comfortable stay in the spacious Room. The Onsen also has great water. All of the staff were kind and provided courteous service. The meals were fairly standard but tasty, and we left feeling full. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

No matter how many times I visit, the Onsen is outstanding. The water temperature is truly perfect, and I can soak for as long as I like. It feels wonderfully soothing on the body and makes you want to immerse yourself completely. The Facility itself has a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere, with tatami Rooms and sleeping on futons instead of beds—an experience that feels refreshingly different from everyday life. Breakfast tastes like home-style cooking from a countryside mom, and everything is delicious. The staff can communicate in English even for international guests, so service is fine. Since there are no similar Ryokan near Beppu Station, this Accommodation is highly recommended if you’re looking for a Showa-era vibe and great Onsen.

There are very few Business Hotels in Yamashiro Onsen. Thanks to this Hotel, I was able to stay at an affordable price. I really appreciate that breakfast is free. The Room was thoroughly cleaned, and the bath facilities were perfectly adequate for a business stay. The amenities are well stocked, which is a welcome service for women. Free tickets to the nearby public bath were provided, which I thought was a great service. You can also take your preferred shampoo and other items from those provided by the Hotel. The lighting in the Room has an adjustment that can get extremely bright—200 points. Doing office work in a dim Room is tough, so I felt they really understand what guests need. Next time I come to Yamashiro Onsen for work, I will stay here again. Thank you very much.

I had made a Reservation last October but had to Cancel the Reservation due to circumstances, and this time we finally made it happen. Since only a “no meals” room was available, and we didn’t want to be tied down by time on the way there, we stopped by a supermarket and picked up food for three meals. We knew there was a microwave at the Accommodation, so we also ate things like retort curry. There is a two-door refrigerator installed in the closet, so it keeps items fairly cold. It’s definitely worth making use of. However, there are no dishes provided, so I recommend bringing disposable plates (and chopsticks/spoons). Also, there is no coffee or tea provided, so if you need them, it’s best to bring your own (there are no cups either). The room is a 6-tatami-size room as shown in the photos, but you have to lay out and put away the futon yourself. For older guests, that may feel a bit tough. We stayed three nights and there was no cleaning service. This was explained at check-in (including the points above), so we accepted it. Each morning we put our trash outside the door before going out; honestly, it became more stressful than expected because you need to be mindful of basic sorting. It’s reasonable and within common sense—but still. Two issues stood out. The mattress futon was extremely thin—like what people call a “rice cracker.” There were four futons available, so my husband and I used two each, but we could still feel the tatami through them. We even added the cushions provided in the room underneath, but it barely helped. I have lower back pain and chose Nagayu Onsen for that reason, so this was difficult for me. It may be time to replace them. Also regarding the safe: it is attached as part of the room key set-up but appears broken and unusable—now seemingly used as a TV stand instead. In this situation, I think it should be listed as “no safe.” And these days especially, having an in-room safe feels essential—so I strongly hope this will be improved. For these reasons I rated it 4 stars. Lastly—and most importantly—my husband and I were truly impressed by the manager’s personality: very friendly and considerate (just my personal impression). They also guided us about reserving/using the private family bath(s), which allowed us to use everything with peace of mind. The Onsen was wonderfully relaxing and high quality; we were able to share precious time together as a couple. If possible, we would love to stay again—thank you very much!

Although the building is very old, everything was thoroughly cleaned throughout, and I had a very pleasant stay. All of the staff were so polite it almost made me feel bad. There are also staff members who speak excellent English, so international guests should have no trouble. The meals were generous—perhaps a slightly smaller Plan could be offered as well. The open-air bath, the large public bath, and the in-Room bath (a bit small) all had wonderful water quality. I stayed for two nights from Friday, and quite often it felt like we had the baths to ourselves. For international guests, there seemed to be some confusion about where to take off slippers and how to use the small towel. If you could provide explanations not only in words but also with simple illustrations and written instructions, I think everyone could enjoy bathing more comfortably (for example: dry your body before returning to the changing area—sometimes the floor ends up quite wet). It’s about a 10-minute walk from the station, very quiet, and perfect for relaxing. This is a Ryokan I would like to visit again to support them going forward. On departure they kindly prepared to drive me to the station, but since I still had time before my train I decided to walk instead—and I was surprised when they even apologized for that. Everyone was truly kind. Lastly, the attendant in charge of my Room was friendly and helpful, leaving me with an excellent overall impression. Thank you very much for taking care of me.

We stayed as a family of three, and the affordable price was a great help. The bath was clean, the hot spring water quality was excellent, and we were very satisfied.

The room was well-cleaned, and the front desk staff were very accommodating. The Onsen was available for use anytime except during the morning cleaning hours, featuring two baths—one hot and one lukewarm—as well as an open-air bath. The quality of the Onsen felt smooth and beneficial for the skin; I enjoyed it twice, at night and in the morning, and was very satisfied. The breakfast buffet was also delicious.
