The sea was beautiful, and the Room was clean, so we had a comfortable stay. The teppanyaki dinner was excellent in both quality and portion size, and my elderly mother finished everything. My nephew loved watching the chef cook right in front of us and said he wants to go back to see the chef again (laugh). We were able to spend a wonderful time.

The Facility may look old, but it has a pleasantly aged charm, and it is thoroughly cleaned, so it never feels dirty. The fireplace atmosphere is wonderful! The service was very courteous, and everyone greeted us with a smile, which felt great. When we contacted the front desk, they came to our Room right away—truly attentive. The meals were very generous and we couldn’t finish everything, but we also enjoyed the game meat. The bath was well cleaned, and the open-air bath was especially relaxing with a view of the night sky!

Our family took a 1-night, 2-day trip to the Shakotan Peninsula in Hokkaido with one main goal: to enjoy great seafood. Lately, rather than a luxury Ryokan with extensive facilities, we’ve been drawn to food-focused Ryokan that truly take their cuisine seriously—and for this trip, our only criterion was simply “we want to eat really delicious seafood.” In that sense, Oyado Shinsei exceeded our expectations. Dinner featured an overwhelming number of dishes and seafood—far more than we could finish. The boat platter was spectacular, with uni and ikura in small bowls, line-caught tuna, hoya (sea squirt), botan shrimp, and more. The flavor was clearly on another level from the sashimi we usually eat. Our whole family kept saying “This is delicious” again and again as we enjoyed it. We were so focused on eating at dinner that we didn’t take any photos, but there were also grilled fish caught that morning, fried items, a rockfish hot pot (soi nabe), and more—each dish genuinely tasty from start to finish without ever feeling repetitive. Breakfast was just as satisfying: a small bowl of uni, sashimi, simmered fish, local delicacies, handmade sesame tofu (goma-dofu), and miso soup made with freshly harvested wakame—everything paired perfectly with rice. The portions were generous, yet it was so good that we finished it all. (I’ve attached a photo of breakfast.) The Accommodation is kept very clean—from the Room to the shared sinks and toilets—making it comfortable throughout our stay. The cypress bath is compact but gentle on the skin and wonderfully warming (we were told it’s not an Onsen, but it was more than satisfying). The staff seemed to be mainly family-run; everyone was friendly and kind with thoughtful attention to detail. We felt comfortable the entire time—it’s an Accommodation that gives you a reassuring “back home” feeling. Given the quality of the meals offered here at this price point, I found it extremely reasonable. We stayed during Golden Week this time, but I’d love to return in another season to enjoy different flavors of Shakotan again.

The Hotel building seems old, but it was well cleaned and very tidy. The meals were among the best I have ever had during my stays. Each dish was carefully prepared. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. I would like to stay here again if I have the opportunity.

I was pleasantly impressed that, although only the IH cooktop was made by Electrolux, all the other Room amenities and appliances I noticed were from Japanese companies such as Panasonic, HITACHI, SHARP, and Noritake. It truly made me happy to see a Japanese Hotel welcoming guests with products from Japanese brands. Despite being in a quiet area, the location was extremely convenient. We enjoyed walking everywhere: north via Shirakawa-dori and the Philosopher’s Path to Ginkaku-ji and Kyoto University; south to Chion-in, Yasaka Shrine, and Kiyomizu-dera; and along the Kamo River and Takase River to the Imperial Palace and Nijo Castle. Shijo Street, Kawaramachi, and Pontocho are also within walking distance, so finding places to eat was never a problem. Having a larger refrigerator, a kitchen, and a dining table in the Room made our stay very spacious and comfortable. We chose a Plan without an in-room washing machine, but there were two washer-dryers with automatic detergent dispensing in the basement. There was no stress from waiting our turn, and we could use them for up to 600 yen. A couple of minor points: since three of us stayed during winter, there wasn’t quite enough space for suitcases or for hanging long items like coats. Also, because the sofa bed was by the window, we felt an uncomfortable cold draft. Still, it was manageable—and in hindsight we probably could have requested an extra duvet—so it wasn’t really a negative point. Overall, we had a very comfortable stay. We would definitely like to stay again.

I chose this place to fully enjoy the JIN6 sauna. The Room was spacious and comfortable, with a calm atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional storehouse. The view of the inlet from the Room was wonderful, and I stretched out on the daybed-like sofa by the window and enjoyed the long twilight. Since there is no dining option at this Accommodation, I made a dinner Reservation at a nearby Accommodation and enjoyed squid dishes, then had a seafood rice bowl at a local diner for breakfast. The sauna is available to guests for 1,000 yen anytime until 1:00 p.m. the next day, and because it’s such an enjoyable sauna, I was really glad I could use it many times. Now that I know it’s easier than expected to get here from Fukuoka Airport by bus or train, I’d love to visit again in another season.

The room had a nice atmosphere in a quiet location. It was raining on the day, so it was convenient that the room was located just above the parking area. The washing machine comes with detergent, and there is also a gas dryer. Dishes, dishwashing detergent, and amenities are provided. Please note that pajamas are not included, so you will need to bring your own.

We stayed for three nights to enjoy river activities and a meal at the ayu fishing weir. Since our stay did not include dinner, it was convenient to choose between eating out nearby or having light meals from a convenience store. As this was right after the earthquake, we refrained from playing in the nearby river, but there are many spots around the headwaters where you can enjoy the river, so we still had a wonderful time. We spent relaxing moments watching the river from the Accommodation’s veranda and setting off fireworks in the garden. The Japanese-made fireworks sold at the Accommodation had a charming feel, and we bought some as souvenirs as well. The staff’s thoughtfulness was outstanding, and we are truly grateful. They also played with our child, which allowed us as a couple to unwind. Kosa Town is conveniently located, everyone is kind, and you can enjoy nature—there’s nothing more to ask for. We will definitely come again.

The facility was excellent and very comfortable. The parking lot was narrow, making it difficult to load and unload luggage from the trunk. During the checkout time, foreign guests were parked on the street to load their luggage, which took a long time and made it difficult for us to move our car. Since there were no staff available, we had to communicate directly with the foreign guests. It would be helpful if staff could assist during that time period. Thank you very much.

A perfect vacation rental with a stunning view of the beautiful sea from the large windows of the dining and living area, set in a location rich in nature. The facility is new, clean, and comfortable. It is equipped with everything you need, including a drum-type washer with dryer. It is also suitable for long-term stays. We had a wonderful experience as a family. We are grateful for the complimentary drinks and water provided in the refrigerator. We got a bit confused with the parking... The parking lot is right next to the bridge leading to this building, on a gravel area. Also, this facility is located in a villa area (residential area) near Omuroyama, and you arrive by climbing a slope and following narrow roads that branch off in several directions. You need to drive slowly and carefully check the navigation system, or you might end up on a different road, so caution is necessary. We went with a car that is 2 meters wide, and it was manageable.

The location and building were perfect! At night, we enjoyed the rooftop terrace jacuzzi while gazing at the star-filled sky—it was an unforgettable evening! We even saw shooting stars. We look forward to staying here again next year.

Right in front of the TV Tower at Odori Park, you can see the illuminated TV Tower while lying in bed, and although the bath is a Room bath, it is very stylish, clean, and spacious. There is no TV, but you can relax and sleep while listening to jazz on a record player. With breakfast included, you can choose between a seafood bowl or pork bowl, accompanied by pork soup, pickles, grilled fish, and a rolled omelet on one plate. The presentation is beautiful and delicious. However, it feels a bit heavy for breakfast, and since seafood bowls are usually eaten at lunch or dinner, it would be nice to have a lighter buffet option. Overall, it might be more suitable for inbound tourists and young people.

Stayed in a smoking double room for a Multiple Night Stay in Iwaki City for work. Here’s my review from the perspective of a heavy smoker and drink enthusiast. Location: There is a parking lot right in front of the hotel with a maximum fee of ¥500 for 24 hours. A convenience store (Lawson), a day-use Onsen (Sahako no Yu), and Yumoto Station are all about a 5-minute walk away, making the location very convenient. However, there are very few dining options, even around the station, so it’s necessary to do some research in advance. I walked up and down the nearby streets twice and found only one izakaya where smoking was allowed ("Odoriba" near the station). The friendly hostess, affordable drinks, and smoking-friendly environment were great, but unfortunately, the place is set to close in a year due to station redevelopment. Many shops had their shutters down, possibly due to the off-season. The adjacent yakitori restaurant "Juhachiban" does not allow smoking but had pleasant service and reasonable prices for a tourist area, making it a recommended spot. Further down, the bar "Mai Tai" seemed to allow smoking at its outdoor sidewalk seating, but I didn’t try it as it looked stylish and seemed a bit pricey. Hotel Room: The glass-walled bathroom (frosted glass, but still) felt a bit uncomfortable. Other than that, there were no major issues. The room was clean and well-maintained. Unlike many hotels where removing the key card cuts off all electricity, this hotel allowed the refrigerator to stay on while I was out, which was convenient for keeping drinks cold during a Multiple Night Stay. The availability of an extension cord was also a nice touch. Other Notes: There is no ice machine or ice service at the front desk, so I had to buy ice from the convenience store for in-room drinks. There is a vending machine for beer and sours next to the front desk. A map of nearby restaurants is also available at the front desk, which was helpful for exploring the area. Considering the rising prices of hotels recently, this hotel offered excellent value for money. The room facilities and location made it a very cost-effective choice.
