A Tranquil Forest Retreat with Historic Cultural Property Villas

Although we arrived in rainy weather, we were warmly welcomed by many staff members, making for a wonderful start that almost felt more than we deserved. The building, designated as a Tangible Cultural Property, has a rich sense of history, yet it is meticulously maintained throughout, allowing us to relax in complete comfort. In addition to the pleasantly warm and soothing Onsen, the cuisine was truly outstanding. On departure, they even took a complimentary commemorative photo and later sent it to our home—such a thoughtful gesture that made this an unforgettable memory. Everything was exceptional, including the hospitality, and this is an Accommodation we would love to stay at again. Thank you very much.

I booked through IKYU while traveling to Niigata to watch a rugby match, thinking I might as well enjoy an Onsen. Honestly, I expected nothing more than a simple soak, but it turned out to be deeply satisfying.The Accommodation sits spaciously on expansive grounds, and the interior is covered with tatami mats throughout. The walk to the large public bath is a bit long, but there are flower arrangements everywhere, and both the building and gardens are maintained with remarkable care. The exterior feels historic, yet the guest room was roomy and comfortable, and the garden view—surrounded by trees—was wonderful.Above all, the food was outstanding. The kaiseki course featuring seasonal ingredients from the foothills of Mt. Gozu had rich dashi in every dish, and everything was truly delicious. I also won’t forget the Koshihikari rice at breakfast—not only its sweetness, but especially its just-cooked aroma. I couldn’t help thinking, “This is genuinely amazing.”Rather than being flashy, every detail—the building, gardens, cleanliness, and cuisine—felt thoughtfully done. Niigata isn’t somewhere I visit often, but if I ever have another reason to go back, this is an Accommodation I’d want to include in my plans. That’s how memorable it was.
