    We’re sorry to hear that.

    I chose this as the first Accommodation for my trip around Lake Biwa, but for the price I was disappointed: the Room’s facilities felt mismatched and pieced together, and the meals were not acceptable (in my personal opinion). Although it came with an open-air bath, it wasn’t something I could truly relax in. I think major improvements are needed, including both the Room and the food. However, I do think the view from the Room is very good.

    This was my first stay, and everything was wonderful—the warm hospitality from the staff, the meals, and the Onsen. I also appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as providing fireworks. The Room was spacious and relaxing as well. If I had one request, since guests move around the entire property in socks or barefoot, it would be nice to have slippers available. Other than that, I was very satisfied and would love to stay again when traveling to Lake Biwa next time.

    Overall, I think thi...

    Overall, I think this is a good Ryokan. However, there were a few points that concerned me. First was the timing of the meal service. Enjoying a high-end Japanese kaiseki dinner is one of the greatest pleasures of staying at a Ryokan. I like to savor each dish slowly while hearing explanations about the ingredients and how it is prepared. However, I was surprised that dishes kept coming one after another without much explanation, even before we had finished the previous course. I do not mean to blame the attendant; I simply hope everyone can further refine their service so that attentive hospitality is consistently provided. Partway through, I asked them to be more mindful about timing and to provide slightly more detailed explanations. We had an arranged “Boku-nabe” at Benayu, and in particular the broth was excellent—the flavor and pleasant chewiness of eel matched well and it was delicious. The number of dishes was satisfying, but having udon followed by rice at the end felt a little unusual (though both were tasty). Since Boku-nabe is something you cannot easily find elsewhere, it made for great conversation. Another concern was the open-air bath in the Room. It was a nice bath, but outside the window is a road, and if someone passes by there is a possibility they could see you naked. As an older guest I personally would not mind much (and might even make others uncomfortable), but for women this would be different. It may be worth considering some countermeasures. The Room was clean, and although using the telescope took a bit of practice, we enjoyed it. All staff members left a good impression on us. The Onsen was also very nice. The view of Lake Biwa from the Ryokan is wonderful as well.

    Silky-smooth and soft

    I’ve been to many Onsen, including ones known for beautiful skin, but this Onsen is amazing—I even thought about moving here. The facilities and the Room were clean, thoughtfully designed, and very pleasant. I appreciated the small touches, like labels with the names of the flowers on display, clear instructions in the guide file, and towels provided at the large public bath. The scenery was also outstanding. If possible, I would have liked rice served with dinner together with the meat, since the fish at breakfast felt more like a snack. Overall, everything was great and I really liked it. Thank you very much.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    A relaxing staycation trip with friends after a long time. The food was delicious, and we were able to unwind. Two disappointing points: 1) The elastic on the samue pants was completely stretched out for all three of us over two nights, making them uncomfortable to wear even when adjusted with the drawstring. 2) When I put on the geta sandals to go outside, the rubber sole was peeling off and flapping. I think it would be better to check the amenities more carefully. It was lovely to see fresh flowers arranged throughout. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    The view of Lake Biwa was amazing.

    The Shuttle Service to Takatsuki Station was extremely helpful. I was having trouble finding a taxi, but when I called, they came to pick me up right away, which I truly appreciated. The Room was very comfortable, and the view of Lake Biwa was wonderful. There were also binoculars and a massage chair, and I enjoyed the in-room open-air bath as well. The staff kindly explained how to use everything, so I felt at ease. One minor concern was that the air in the Room felt a bit dusty, and it made me sneeze. Also, when entering and leaving the open-air bath, I slightly worried about whether it might be visible from below. Both meals (breakfast and dinner) looked great and tasted great, and I was very satisfied. The staff were kind and pleasant as well.

    Winter scenery with blooming plum blossoms

    This was my first stay in Shiga Prefecture. Despite being the coldest season of winter, the spring-like weather with yellow dust in the air made for a unique experience. The open-air bath by Lake Biwa, overlooking the lake and accompanied by the sound of ducks, provided a heartwarming moment. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent, and the staff's hospitality was outstanding. Our journey from Nagahama to Koto Sanzan will remain a cherished memory.

    Is the open-air bath satisfactory?

    The open-air bath attached to the Room was fully visible to anglers on the pier in front during the morning. Using the birdwatching telescope provided in the Room, we observed that some anglers were persistently glancing toward the Ryokan, even though it was unnecessary for fishing. Some wore their hats low and stayed in one spot without catching any fish, which gave an impression of habitual voyeurism. Assuming it’s not visible at night might be overly optimistic; at night, visibility from our side is limited, making guests more likely to use it without caution. This creates an ideal environment for voyeurism or illicit recording by those aware of this situation. While open-air baths being visible may have been culturally acceptable historically, this raises concerns in modern times. The worst-case scenario could involve unauthorized images circulating online—a significant risk factor. It’s troubling that such activities can easily occur from a nearby pier rather than requiring long-distance equipment. Additionally, there are no blinds or coverings for either the open-air bath or even the shower room, making it impossible to take a shower comfortably in the morning when anglers are present from 6 AM to 10 AM. Although voyeurism is an external factor beyond control of the Ryokan itself, having no options for privacy seems questionable. Given these circumstances where using the open-air bath becomes nearly impractical, I found pricing quite high relative to what was offered. While satisfied with other aspects of our Room overall, amenities did not match expectations at this price point. Dinner wasn’t bad but featured only thin slices of meat for hot pot considering its cost; breakfast felt notably sparse as well. The service provided by Ryokan staff was not poor; however, implementing measures against voyeurism is highly recommended.

    Excellent

    The Ryokan itself is not very spacious, but the staff's hospitality is excellent. I was particularly impressed by the outstanding service attitude of the Asian female staff, which was truly remarkable.

    Not worth the price

    I stayed alone in a renovated room because the reviews were good. It was my first time cleaning a room myself at this price point. The massage chair was worn out with a bath towel draped over it, and the reclining chair was also in poor condition, which differed significantly from the promotional photos. I had to drain and clean the semi-open-air bath before using it, and there was no view from the bath. The best part of this room was the breathtaking view of the moon reflecting on the lake at night. However, during the day, the strong western sunlight made it less enjoyable. It seemed that even the accommodation understood that their services did not match this price range overall, so I believe some adjustments should be made, and discrepancies between photos and reality should be corrected. While I didn’t voice any complaints on-site, I am sharing this for future guests' reference.

    There are various "notices" posted in the common areas and rooms. It might be because there are many people who don't follow rules or morals, but it felt a bit disappointing.

    Public Bath

    We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath. The bath in the Room was excellent. We also used the large public bath, but there was a black residue on our backs that was difficult to wash off. If you bathe alone, you might not notice it, but since I entered with my mother, we noticed it and had a hard time cleaning it off. We informed the Ryokan staff about this issue, but they only said they would look into it... If not for this incident, we could have left feeling much better. Other than that, our stay was comfortable.

    Clean and tidy

    Stayed in Room 101. The renovation was tasteful, the cleaning was thorough, and the accommodation had a sense of cleanliness. Art is displayed throughout the facility. The meals offered a wide variety of dishes, and the service was pleasant. The view was stunning, and I enjoyed a relaxing stay at this excellent accommodation. Thank you very much!

    A bit disappointing

    The ryokan had great food, facilities, and hospitality, making for a pleasant stay. Thank you very much. Overall, it was a lovely accommodation; however, some minor details were slightly disappointing: - No spare toilet paper provided or mismatched quantities of room amenities. - The semi-open-air bath in the room was visible from the living area through glass (raising concerns about privacy while bathing). - The breakfast dining area was nice, but the hallway in front of it had people passing by frequently, which made it hard to relax. If given the chance, I would love to stay here again. Thank you very much!

    Impressive

    The location, facilities, meals, and service were all very satisfying! Especially the view from the open-air bath in the room, where the snow was piled up like decorations in various places, and the expansive Lake Biwa seemed to embrace everything. The temperature of the bath was just right, making my skin smooth! The meals were also made with plenty of local ingredients, beautifully presented, and very delicious! Every staff member was very polite and warm. Everything exceeded my expectations, and I would definitely like to use it again! Thank you for a wonderful experience!

    Family Reward Trip

    We stayed with three generations, including our son and his wife who returned home. Since there were six adults, we were worried the room might be small, but the futons were laid out nicely. The food was truly delicious, and the serving staff were kind. Although it was a very cozy ryokan, we could have the lakeside all to ourselves from the open-air bath in the room, allowing us to relax and unwind. We truly had a leisurely time. Our grandchildren also loved it and want to repeat the stay. Next time, we would like a multiple night stay. Thank you very much.

    I stayed for one night with my girlfriend.

    I used this property for a trip from the Kanto region. The shuttle service to the nearest station, Takatsuki Station, made check-in very smooth. Upon arrival at the property, we first received an explanation of the room. The staff's explanation was very kind and easy to understand. The facility was also very clean, and we could enjoy a foot bath while overlooking Lake Biwa and relax in the lounge. The open-air bath in the room was, needless to say, excellent. The only disappointment was that the spring rolls on the dinner menu were out of stock, even though we had made a reservation. I understand there might be unavoidable reasons, but since all the other dishes were delicious, I wished I could have tried them. Other than that, there was nothing else to be concerned about, and I was able to relax very much. Thank you for a wonderful time.

    Bird Paradise

    The view from the window of the Stays was breathtaking and unforgettable. Countless wild birds floated on the lake's surface, with migratory birds like mute swans flying above, creating a paradise for birds. Although it was a Property I chose by chance as a base for the late November tour of Lake Biwa's Kannon statues, I am grateful for the wonderful gift of nature.

    It was a wonderful Stays.

    Upon entering the Stays, there is a scent of incense (it could be a bit more subtle). A staff member immediately came to us, offered a welcome drink, and then guided us to our Room. Although the staff member was of foreign nationality, the guidance was very polite. The Japanese staff member who assisted us during the meal was also very easy to talk to and friendly, which was great. The much-anticipated meal was, as everyone’s Review said, very delicious and filling. It was a basic kaiseki meal, but truly delicious. The carp sashimi was especially exquisite. The open-air Onsen in the guest Room was used multiple times with reheating. They thoroughly explained how to reheat and the duration for keeping it warm, so we enjoyed it without entering it cold. Since it was a natural hot spring, there were mineral deposits floating, which honestly surprised me a bit. It might have been just me not noticing, but it was disappointing that there was no cleansing and face wash foam as amenities. (There was cleansing oil in the large public bath.) I deducted one star, but otherwise, I am very satisfied. Thank you for a wonderful time.

    The staff, both fore...

    The staff, both foreign and Japanese, were very pleasant, and we had a wonderful time. The view was excellent, and the ryokan was well-equipped, with a massage machine in the room, which was a big plus. The food was plentiful, and we couldn't finish it, for which we apologize. It would be great if we could choose the portion size at any property, as older guests often can't finish their meals and feel sorry about it. Also, the breakfast porridge was delicious and excellent. The complimentary coffee after breakfast was appreciated, but it would have been nice if it was served in a takeaway cup so we could bring it back to the room. Overall, we were very satisfied. Thank you very much.
