    A Luxurious Stay

Everything was taken care of, and there was nothing to fault—those words say it all. That’s the kind of Accommodation it was. The Onsen, the Room, the meals, and the staff—thanks to all of them, we were able to enjoy a truly luxurious time. We were lucky to find such a wonderful Accommodation. Thank you very much. We would love to visit again. Additional note: I gave four stars for the Facility category because part of a hallway had a low ceiling, and although it was due to my own carelessness, I almost hit my head. That said, it’s only because I’m slightly tall, so I hesitated to deduct a star—but in my selfish way of thinking, something like 4.999 rather than 5.0 somehow feels even more impressive.

    Dining counter seating

Overall, the service, Room, and meals were good, but dinner was served at a counter seat facing the window. The biggest issue was that when I tried to take photos of the food, the light was behind me, so my shadow appeared on the dishes. If guests are expected to be satisfied with a counter seat facing outside, I think the garden should be better maintained and have some indirect lighting. The same applies to the semi-suite’s outdoor bath—the surrounding area felt like untouched forest where it seemed a bear could appear at any moment, which was disappointing. However, I was satisfied with the service and staff attitude overall, and considering the value for money of the semi-suite’s Facility, I am satisfied. I think it is a good Ryokan.

    Hagi Room

Escorted to our Room, the moment I opened the door and saw how clean, spacious, and bright it was, I felt glad we came. Although it was raining, we were still able to comfortably enjoy the private open-air bath in the Room (on rainy days, a sheet is placed over the roof). It was also great that we could freely top up the 55°C spring water. The food was delicious as well; the soup featured a pureed corn potage-style broth, and there were many distinctive dishes—everything exceeded our expectations. All of the staff were very courteous, and we truly had a relaxing time. If I had to mention one thing, check-in guidance took a little time. Other than that, it’s a perfect Accommodation.

    Throughout the property...

I wanted to visit an Onsen close to Tokyo, so I chose this Accommodation in Yugawara. The Shuttle Service from Yugawara Station was very helpful.\nThere were thoughtful touches throughout the Room—nail clippers, a charger, and two yukata prepared from the start. There is also samue loungewear. Above the open-air bath is a roof that can be operated by remote control, so I was able to enjoy the bath without getting wet even when it rained.\nThe meals were delicious as well. I was especially impressed at breakfast when the proprietress served us properly dressed in a kimono. In my experience, Accommodations personally run by the proprietress rarely disappoint.\nThe large public bath alternates between morning and evening, which gave it a different atmosphere each time and was great. Towels and amenities were well stocked, and there were complimentary ice cream and drinks, including juice for children—so it seems suitable for families traveling with kids.\nThe souvenir corner was also well stocked. The international staff worked very hard, and it was clear they had been well trained.\nOne concern was mold on the floor of the shower area in the Room; it would be easy to clean quickly with mold remover. Also, regarding footwear provided for guests staying in detached rooms: I think it would be better if there were a clear way to tell which pair is yours from start to finish.\nIt’s a wonderful Accommodation and I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Exquisite Hospitality

We stayed here to celebrate our anniversary trip as a couple. From check-in, we were warmly welcomed with cold tea, a hot towel, and wasanbon rakugan sweets, and the hospitality was so soothing after our journey. We also appreciated the thoughtful selection of in-room amenities and the wide variety of complimentary drinks—everything felt well prepared for different situations. And above all, the meals were outstanding!! We chose the kaiseki course; there were many dishes and we were completely full, yet each one was carefully prepared and absolutely delicious. The tableware and presentation are also a delight. We were truly surprised by how good the white rice was as well. This time, we chose “Ashikari” with the goal of fully enjoying the Accommodation—and it was exactly the right choice! We would love to stay again.

This was our third stay. As we have a 15-month-old grandchild, having meals served in the Room, as on our previous visit, was a great help. The Room was smaller than last time, but the view was lovely and we were more than satisfied. The meals are always delicious, beautifully presented with vibrant colors that whet the appetite even before eating. We are grateful to the staff who brought our meals to the Room for their kind and courteous service. All of the other staff were also pleasant and considerate. Thank you very much. We look forward to staying with you again and appreciate your continued support.

I was soothed by the attentive service!

Our group of women in our 70s and 80s stayed for the first time for two nights on a light-meal dining Plan. Since we have mobility issues, the stairs inside the Hotel were a bit challenging, but we truly appreciated the staff’s thoughtful attention and warm smiles. We were also happy that towels were available as much as we needed, and that the Hotel-style amenities were well stocked. The seasoning of the meals was just right even for elderly women, and every dish was so delicious that we ended up eating more than we intended!

    It’s quite lovely!

This was my first stay, and I had high expectations. All of the staff were pleasant and made me feel very comfortable. The Room opened out onto magnificent nature at all times, which felt wonderfully freeing. The in-room bath was also fed directly from the hot spring source, and it was extremely relaxing. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stroll around the garden, and there wasn’t anywhere nearby for a casual walk either. Dinner was carefully prepared and lightly seasoned, and I enjoyed it very much. The dried fish at breakfast didn’t meet my expectations, but the rice was so delicious that I had seconds. Regarding the coffee service: lately it seems to be a trend to provide capsule coffee machines. As a coffee lover, that was disappointing.

    Everything was excellent!

We stayed with our 1-year-old child, and all the Ryokan staff were very kind—our child seemed really happy! The Room was clean and spacious, and we were very satisfied. The meals were also delicious!

We enjoyed the open-air bath in our room surrounded by trees, along with the beautiful views and delicious cuisine.

The Room we were shown had a full floor-to-ceiling glass front. The view—lush trees up close and the Hakone outer rim mountains in the distance—far exceeded our expectations. There was plenty of space with both tatami and wooden flooring, and we enjoyed coffee from the espresso machine while taking in a scenery we never tired of. What makes the open-air bath in the guest room so wonderful is that it feels like bathing among the trees. The terrace with the tub had no privacy fence, offering an incredible sense of openness. We were blessed with fine weather during our stay, but since there is a motorized roof cover, an open-air bath in the rain might be enjoyable as well. The large public baths, “Takane-no-Yu” and “Kusamakura-no-Yu,” offered semi-open-air-like views. The highly transparent water sparkled in the sunlight—truly exceptional hot springs. For dinner, we chose the “Small-portion Kaiseki Plan” to avoid overeating, and it was just the right amount for us. Starting with local plum liqueur as an IKYU Diamond benefit, every dish was delicious. We felt it was a highly satisfying Plan that’s kind to both stomach and wallet. Breakfast the next morning also featured an array of beautifully presented dishes, making for a pleasant start to the day. After checkout, when we mentioned going to nearby Manyo Park, a staff member in kimono kindly drove us there. With so many slopes in the area, we truly appreciated it. We selected this Room based on photos on the website and AI advice, and it turned out to be exactly what we hoped for—a perfect choice. It seems that views and atmosphere vary depending on each room’s orientation at this Accommodation, so if you care about scenery, we recommend consulting with them in advance.

    It was very comfortable.

Standard Room stay. The property is compact overall and very convenient, and the open-air bath in the guest Room features a skin-friendly Onsen. It has a homey atmosphere, and the staff’s smiles were wonderful. Free Shuttle Service available. The small-portion kaiseki Plan was delicious, and we finished everything. As a senior couple, we found the stairs a bit challenging, but the open-air bath surrounded by nature was outstanding!

    Family-friendly services are greatly appreciated.

We stayed with our child, who was about 18 months old, and we were very happy that every staff member treated our child warmly. When our child became fussy during meals, they lent us toys and even brought the meal and dessert to our Room, which was a great help. The Room was spacious, and the in-room open-air bath overlooked lush greenery, which was very relaxing. Our child was able to enjoy the bath many times as well, making this a Ryokan where we could truly unwind.

    A Relaxing Stay

We stayed as a couple. The later checkout time meant we didn’t have to rush in the morning, and we really appreciated being able to relax and enjoy our stay. The Room was equipped with a hair iron and hair oil, and we felt that even the small details were thoughtfully considered. Meals were served at just the right pace—we never felt rushed or kept waiting—so we could enjoy everything calmly. We were satisfied with the food overall, and personally, the pickles were especially delicious and memorable. I understand rising costs may be a factor, but depending on when you Reserve, it can feel a bit pricey. Still, considering the longer stay time, the comfort of the Room, and how satisfying the meals were, it was an Accommodation with a high level of overall satisfaction. We’d like to use it again when we want to unwind at a leisurely pace.

Perfect for relaxing in your Room

We booked at the last minute, so the Room was assigned for us, but it was wonderful and we were very satisfied. Given the location of this Room, I was a little concerned about whether the changing area might be visible from other Rooms, but the fresh green in the garden was beautiful, and we were able to relax while soaking in the open-air bath in our Room. The Onsen left our skin feeling smooth, and it was also a great size for two people, so we did visit the large public bath as well, but felt that the bath in our Room was more than enough. Having written instructions on how to use the shower also felt like thoughtful consideration for guests. The international staff were all friendly and gentle in manner, which left a very positive impression. The tea in our Room was delicious, and having milk for coffee in the refrigerator was a service I really appreciated since I can only drink café au lait. The food was carefully prepared and the sashimi was delicious, so overall we were satisfied. However, perhaps because both the Room and Onsen were so exceptional, by comparison the meal felt slightly less memorable (though it was certainly tasty). If you drink alcohol, I think pairing it with wine or sake would make dining even more enjoyable. The ice cream available in the lobby was also delicious, and it’s nice that there’s no time limit on when you can have coffee or tea. It’s also convenient that you can use the large public bath almost anytime, and I felt this is an ideal Accommodation to stay for a Multiple Night Stay and simply unwind. This time, Ashikari showed us just how wonderful Yugawara is. We would love to visit again.

I’d love to stay here again.

We stayed in a Room with a view of Hakone’s outer rim mountains. The open-air bath in the guest room, enjoyed while looking out the window at Hakone’s mountains and lush greenery, was truly relaxing. We were also soothed by the clean Room, delicious meals, and the staff’s attentive service. Next time, we’d like to stay in a different Room as well.

We stayed here on our first trip with our 6-month-old baby. They provided a diaper trash bin in the Room, lent us a baby bath and a baby chair, and quickly sterilized our bottles, so we were able to spend our first trip with a baby very comfortably. Since meals were served in the Room, we could relax and enjoy them even with our child. We’re truly glad we chose this Accommodation for our first trip with a baby.

We had a great time with our baby!

We stayed as a family of three with our 3-month-old baby. It was our first trip with a child and we were a bit nervous, but we were extremely satisfied! The Room was very spacious, with large windows that made it feel bright and open—we were impressed the moment we walked in. The open-air bath was always filled with water at a comfortable temperature, and there was also a bench on the balcony to cool down. They also offered an excellent selection of baby items for loan (a crib, baby bath, wet wipes, and a diaper trash bin), which was incredibly helpful since we traveled by bullet train and local trains and could keep our luggage to a minimum. They even offered to wash and sterilize our baby bottles—each time staff came to the Room, they kindly asked, “Shall we sterilize the bottles?” Both dinner and breakfast were served in the Room, so we could relax and enjoy our meals while keeping an eye on our child. When they brought the meals in, they also spoke warmly to our child, who looked so happy. There were beer, oolong tea, and mandarin orange jelly in the Room refrigerator, plus ice cream available in the lobby—these thoughtful services made us very happy! We’d love to visit again when our child is a little older. Thank you very much!

    A Welcoming Accommodation

Rare for the Kanto area, this Room came with an open-air Onsen bath with a view. On arrival, the welcome and explanations were very courteous, and check-in was smooth. The Room was bright and airy, with a decent selection of furnishings. As mentioned in other Reviews, the stains on the sofa were still a hygiene concern. Regarding the in-room open-air Onsen bath: although it was explained as free-flowing, it does not run continuously. It seems to release hot water briefly when the temperature drops and then stop. As a result, even if the water level goes down, it is not topped up unless the temperature falls. For dinner, there were many attendants who provided attentive service. The food was pleasantly light and flavorful with proper dashi—unusual in soy-sauce-heavy Kanto—and tasted great. However, considering the price of this Accommodation, the ingredient selection did not feel particularly luxurious. The sashimi was not local fish, nor were we told where it came from. It had a very strong fishy odor and was difficult to eat. The fried item was just small river shrimp fritters—about one piece as part of the hassun assortment. The meat was thin like roast beef and had more of a Western style. I think it would be better if the final white rice were replaced with clay-pot mixed rice using fish or similar ingredients. Breakfast included sashimi as well, but it was salmon. Salmon only brings conveyor-belt sushi to mind for me, so I wondered why salmon in Yugawara. The rolled omelet (dashimaki) was also firm and not tasty. As for the Room layout: because of poor bed placement, I could hear footsteps in the hallway late at night and couldn’t sleep well. The toilet lid also malfunctioned at night—opening and closing repeatedly even though no one touched it. For the sofa placement too, I think it should be positioned so you can sit and enjoy the view; I imagine very few people stay in a Room of this class just to watch TV. It might also be nice to have a few more drinks stocked in the refrigerator. There are many foreign staff members here; everyone smiled more than most Japanese staff do and were very considerate. Overall, my impression is that prices are about 30% higher than other Onsen areas due to being branded as Yugawara/Hakone.

    It was comfortable.

While the exterior is starting to look a bit worn, the Room was bright and comfortable, and the open-air bath had pleasantly soft water that made for a very relaxing soak. The staff, many of whom are from overseas, were all working very hard and left a positive impression.

Staying Overnight with My One-Year-Old Grandchild

This was our second stay. We enjoyed a delicious in-room meal in the Room “Awayuki,” which is certified as Miki House Childcare Support. Since we did not have an in-room meal last time, I would recommend it to guests traveling with children. The dining staff were very attentive and kind to our grandchild, who was happy throughout. The Room was spacious, and we were able to relax comfortably in the open-air bath without any worries. However, the shower stopper was a little difficult to use. We will be staying again in June, and we look forward to it.

    Yugawara Trip

I booked this Accommodation after seeing photos of a Room with an open-air bath and wanted to stay here. It was wonderful, just as I had imagined. The Onsen water felt soft and was very relaxing. The garden still had bare trees, but it had a charming atmosphere and I was able to unwind. I also appreciated that they accommodated my dietary preferences by removing items I don’t like from the meal. Highly recommended.

We used this for our first trip with our 9-month-old baby. With bottle sterilization and a diaper disposal bin provided, we were able to stay without any worries. An Accommodation you’ll want to return to

We stayed at Sagamiji. The bright, spacious layout felt a bit too large for just the two of us, and the open-air bath was very comfortable. All of the meals were delicious. One thing we noticed was that the decorative veneer panels with straight grain attached to the pillars were peeling off and torn in several places. We may visit again in a different season. However, we are concerned that the price increase is too steep.

    It was very relaxing.

My husband and I stayed here together. All of the staff were efficient, and everything was handled smoothly. We arrived a little after 2:30 pm with no traffic at all, and they assisted us right away and showed us to our Room immediately, which we really appreciated. The Room amenities were excellent—everything we thought would be nice to have was provided. That said, this may come down to personal preference, but there were a few points that concerned us: the entrance door felt thin, there was no sliding partition between the entryway and the Room, and the shower room door (glass partition?) only covered half of the opening. We also felt it would be nice if nightwear were provided. Other than that, the food was very delicious and generous in portion size. The open-air bath also had an automatic shade, so we could relax without worrying about direct morning sunlight. Thank you very much.

Time seemed to pass slowly and peacefully.

Your warm hospitality truly relaxed both my body and mind. I was soothed by the casual conversations with the staff, and deeply moved by the cuisine, which brought out every best quality of the ingredients without missing a thing. And what a surprise to wake up to the song of a Japanese bush warbler! The singing was so perfectly beautiful that I even asked the staff if it was real. With a laugh, they told me it was—and that it has gotten much better compared to early spring—which warmed my heart even more. I would love to visit again in another season. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

We can’t imagine a better Accommodation for families with a baby. The quality of the Accommodation is also outstanding. This was our second ...

This was our second stay, and just like last time, we were “completely satisfied.” The sense of openness in the Room and the excellent quality of the hot spring water let us relax from the bottom of our hearts. The meals are always even better than expected. We can truly enjoy the natural flavors of each ingredient, and the seasonal menu is exciting every time a dish is brought out. With the clear, refined broth, we genuinely feel that we want to chew well and savor each dish carefully. Also, I’m personally very impressed that the dining room windows are always beautifully polished. All of the staff are pleasant as well, and we felt comfortable throughout our stay until departure. The only thing I noticed about this Room was that there is no door between the washroom/changing area and the living space (?). Even while sleeping, noise and light were noticeable, and I also thought it would be cold in winter. I felt it would be nice if a sliding door could be installed. This is an Accommodation we love where you can experience true relaxation and enjoy food that makes your body feel happy. We would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much.
