Marutamachi Station × Highly rated Hotel·Ryokan for Onsen and bath

Thanks to the Diamond member benefit, we received a Room upgrade. The moment we stepped inside, the space was so generous that I couldn’t help but say, “Wow.” The interior was consistently styled with a Kyoto-inspired Japanese aesthetic, creating a wonderfully calm atmosphere. The indirect lighting was thoughtfully designed, and the Room felt especially lovely at night. The tableware included beautiful, like-new pieces from Noritake and HARIO. My personal favorite was the bath salts—soaking in the tub while surrounded by natural aromas was truly relaxing. Breakfast was delicious, and having it delivered to our Room made everything feel effortless. Rather than a Hotel stay, it felt like relaxing in a private residence. This time we stayed for one night, but it’s an Accommodation where I’d love to enjoy a Multiple Night Stay at a slower pace. All staff were polite and kind, which made us feel at ease. I would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

Although it’s part of the Hyatt group, there’s no excessive service, which actually makes it more comfortable. You bring necessary items such as toner and bath towels to your room from in front of the 1st-floor front desk, and I support this effort to reduce unnecessary waste. There is no dedicated parking lot, but there is a coin-operated parking area along the local road on the annex side. When loading and unloading luggage from the car, it was helpful that there was little traffic. The disappointing part is the coffee service. I use it every year when I stay, but there always seems to be some kind of issue—such as the machine not working properly or running out of milk. Overseas guests also seemed confused about how to use it. It might be better to switch to a simpler machine like those at convenience stores. I also feel sorry for the front desk staff having to deal with problems with the machine.

It is in a very convenient location for visiting the excellent Japanese restaurants and kappo dining in Gosho-minami, so I stay here often. The Room is kept clean and well prepared, the amenities are well stocked, and it also comes with Maeda Coffee, Marukyu Koyamaen Japanese tea bags, and sweets—perfect for a relaxing break. This is my favorite Hotel in Kyoto. On my last visit, even though it was not yet check-in time, they kindly let me check in early because my Room was ready, which I truly appreciated.

I stayed here on a business trip. It seemed popular with many international guests, but the front desk service was smooth and I had no issues at all. Before entering my Room, I picked up and chose amenities myself, and they were more than sufficient. The Room was clean and well maintained, stylish and cute. I also appreciated having the bath and toilet separate; after a long day of work, I could fill the tub and relax. I was getting tired of staying at a Business Hotel, so this Hotel with a different atmosphere felt soothing. It was quiet around the Room at night as well, making for a comfortable stay. There are several breakfast spots and bakeries nearby, so I thought it would be nice to have breakfast at the Hotel or eat out in the morning. If I’m in the area again for work, I’d like to stay here again.

I stayed at the end of February. There was a courtyard inside the room, allowing me to experience the atmosphere of Kyoto while staying indoors, which was a special experience. This time it was a short stay, but next time I would like to take my time and enjoy it more.

I have stayed here many times. The warm, heartfelt hospitality always makes me want to return. This is a comfortable extended-stay Hotel with a washer-dryer, refrigerator, microwave, IH cooktop, and mini kitchen, all kept very clean.

Overall, we had a comfortable stay. Our trip was almost entirely centered around staying in this house, and the more we looked at the interior design and furnishings, the more we noticed—so it was really enjoyable. However... The floors and tables were very clean, but we found hair inside the hair dryer storage case in the bathroom, and also hair and dust inside a kitchen utensil drawer. I couldn’t see clearly, but it also seemed like there was something above the toilet ceiling (a bug? a clump of dust?). There was also something like a piece of packing material left in the garden. Since it’s an entire house, I imagine it’s quite difficult to keep everything perfectly clean. Because the building itself is something you want to admire, you end up looking closely everywhere and noticing these things. It didn’t cause major discomfort, but I do think paying closer attention to small details would make the stay feel much more pleasant.

I often visit the nearby shops, so I’d been curious about this place for a while and decided to stay. It’s set slightly back from the main street, but the attached bakery is delicious, and there are many great restaurants nearby, making it a very convenient location. The interior has a modern Japanese style, and the solid wood flooring feels great even barefoot. The standout feature is the large hinoki bath. Even tall guests can stretch their legs out comfortably, and the scent of hinoki is very relaxing. It’s rare to find such a large hinoki bath even at other Hotels. The tub can also be filled automatically, which was fantastic. All Facilities are up to date, and there was nothing inconvenient compared with staying at a Hotel. Since this is a renovated property with traditional-sized beams, guests over 180 cm may bump their head, so please be careful—it’s annoying at first but you get used to it. There are some downsides—like the TV being hard to figure out and the stairs being steep—but the biggest thing to note is that because this Facility shares space with shops, you can hear more noise than expected from early morning as the bakery prepares for opening. During the day as well, you can clearly hear customers and probably children of people eating in. From the large opening at the back of the second floor and from the rear garden area, you can also smell bread coming in from the bakery. Whether this feels noisy or adds to its machiya character may depend on personal preference. There were moments when it didn’t feel very calm, but overall it was a good experience. The front desk staff were very courteous, so I had a very pleasant stay. When I arrived, I was irritated by the heat, and I feel sorry for having acted that way. The Room and other areas were well cleaned, which made everything feel fresh and comfortable.

The hotel entrance is marked only with a symbol, making it very difficult to find. Even after entering, it was hard to locate my room (no room number displayed), so I had to call the office for assistance. My room was in the back storage house, with the bedroom on the second floor. The lighting was dim as it relied solely on indirect lighting. The TV is located on the first floor and is exclusively for Netflix viewing. However, the courtyard design is stunning and gives a feeling of being in another world. It’s an accommodation worth staying at least once. The room I stayed in had only a shower facility.

I was looking for a Hotel not too far from Kyoto Station, with easy access to the places I wanted to visit and close to the station. There was also a Co-op next door, and it was near the station. The Room was clean. I did notice a lot of dust on the TV remote, and if I mention every small detail it would never end, but for this price and location, it was more than enough if you just need a place to sleep.

The Room was clean and comfortable. Above all, the meals were delicious. We could really feel the staff’s thoughtfulness, and we’d like to stay again. The price was so low that we were almost worried it might be too good to be true. Five stars.
