Nestled at the foot of Mt. Hiei beside the clear waters of the Takano River, Yase is a tranquil corner of Kyoto.This area is known as Japan’s oldest steam-bathing site, where it is said that Prince Oama—wounded by an arrow during the Jinshin War—was healed in a kiln bath offered by local villagers. Named moksa, a Sanskrit word meaning “liberation,” our property features three fully private saunas, “Joan,” available by Reservation only, with cold baths filled with spring water from Mt. Hiei; the restaurant “MALA,” where Ohara vegetables and Omi beef are finished over a wood fire; and the lounge “Kikyorai,” overlooking a moss garden. Be steamed, surrounded by the scent of burning wood, and rest your eyes on the garden’s greenery—In Yase, just beyond Kyoto’s bustle, spend an evening gently unwinding both body and mind.

The accommodation near the Kamo River, at the foot of Mount Daimonji, is located in the nature-rich Hyakumanben area and is just a short walk from Kyoto University. Nearby attractions include Chion-ji Temple, Shimogamo Shrine, Yoshida Shrine, and Ginkaku-ji Temple, with convenient access to Kyoto University of the Arts as well.
