[Opening November 5, 2024] "Hotel Utano Kyoto Villa" is located just a short drive from the famous sightseeing spots of Kyoto, including Arashiyama, the World Heritage Sites of Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, and Ninna-ji, as well as the scenic Kinukake-no-Michi walking path. With only 10 guest rooms, each featuring a private Onsen bath, our accommodations include options such as Narutaki Main Building showcasing traditional Shoin-zukuri and Sukiya-style architecture; an Art Deco-inspired Western-style building; and rooms that blend warm Japanese aesthetics with contemporary Western design. Meals are served in a dining area overlooking a Japanese garden. Enjoy dishes crafted with fresh seafood from Awaji Island alongside carefully selected ingredients from Kyoto and surrounding regions. Hanare NINOHMI is located in a corner of the old Kameyama castle town, which was established by Mitsuhide Akechi. Under the supervision of Alex Kerr, a researcher of Eastern culture, the city of Kameoka renovated a historic incense merchant's traditional house, transforming it into a Property. The Property features a two-story main building and a detached Room connected by a corridor. Two gardens and a storehouse situated between them add elegance and grandeur to the Facility. As the Property is available for exclusive rental (three buildings available), you can forget the hustle and bustle of daily life and spend your time in relaxation. Kameoka is a major production area for Kyoto vegetables and has long been called the "kitchen of Kyoto" due to its abundance of ingredients. We offer Japanese cuisine and Italian dishes that make use of these ingredients (advance Reservation required). Additionally, there are restaurants and supermarkets nearby, allowing you to dine out or bring in ingredients to cook in your Room freely. Kameoka is approximately 20 minutes from JR Kyoto Station. Although it is adjacent to the tourist city of Kyoto, it remains relatively undiscovered by tourists, offering a sense of hidden charm. The expansive rural landscapes and old townscapes will surely provide a sense of tranquility. At Hanare NINOHMI, you can enjoy a relaxing time that cannot be experienced in bustling Kyoto. On the day after your stay, we recommend exploring the nature and history of Kameoka, and then returning via the Sagano Scenic Railway or Hozugawa River Boat Ride. We look forward to welcoming you. **The Origin of "NINOHMI"** The Kameoka Basin was once a lake, and according to legend, it came to be called "NINOHMI" due to the sight of red waves ("Tan no Nami") on the water. Additionally, the characteristic scenery of the Kameoka Basin, where the morning mist and sunrise create a sea of clouds resembling red waves, inspired the name as a word that encapsulates the essence of Kameoka. The Property is located about a 15-minute walk from JR Kameoka Station. Nearby, you can find attractions such as the Hoko Storehouse of the Kameoka Festival's Hagoromo-yama float, sake breweries, and soy sauce breweries.

The location is believed to be the site of Emperor Kanmu's Oi Imperial Villa, which he frequently visited during his reign (781-806), as referenced in "Nihon Kiryaku." (An excavation conducted on our premises in 1988 uncovered remains of a garden from the early Heian period, suggesting a high possibility that this was the site of Emperor Kanmu's Oi Imperial Villa.) In "The Tale of Genji," Chapter 18 "Matsukaze," written in the mid-Heian period, a residence near the Oi River serves as the setting. This residence is described as being located "nearby Oigawa," and it is believed to have been modeled after Emperor Kanmu's Oi Imperial Villa.
