Opened on September 2, 2007. Named “Masuichi Kyakuden” from the owner’s wish: “We would have loved to welcome you into our own home…”. Designed by architect John Morford—who also designed “Kurabu” and the main store of Masuichi Ichimura Sake Brewery—this Accommodation is his vision of where he would want to stay when visiting Obuse. Centered around three earthen storehouses relocated from a long-established sugar wholesaler in Nagano, it comprises seven wooden buildings, with interiors fully furnished in Western style.

A refined sukiya-style retreat nestled along a lush, verdant gorge. All buildings, including the guest rooms, face the Matsukawa Gorge—spring and summer bring fresh greenery to this “Accommodation in the gorge.” In autumn, it becomes a “healing hot spring” floating amid crimson mountains, and in winter, a “moment of tranquility” wrapped in white. This Accommodation offers breathtaking views throughout the year, in every season. Please take your time enjoying our signature oil fondue in a private dining room.

As an annex of the historic "Shinshu Yudanaka Onsen Yorozuya," which has been welcoming guests since the Edo Kansei era, this new accommodation will be reborn on March 1, 2024. The previous Matsusho-so was designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 2003 and cherished by many until it was lost to fire in 2021. Despite this loss, with encouragement from numerous supporters, we are proud to announce its revival as the new "Matsusho-so" on March 1, 2024. The building incorporates design elements of the original Matsusho-so while embracing traditional Sukiya architecture that harmonizes with nature. Each room features a private open-air bath overlooking a small garden where guests can enjoy seasonal landscapes. We have created a space that feels "new yet somehow nostalgic." Shiga Kogen Genji Firefly Park is right in front of our lodge! A hidden forest retreat nestled in a birch grove where fireflies dance. In summer, be enchanted by the *magical fireflies* and the *star-filled night sky*. In winter, enjoy endless skiing in the vast Shiga Kogen! Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama Ski Resorts are about a 5-minute drive away, and we also offer free Shuttle Service to the slopes.
