In the spring of 2017, after about a year and a half of silence, a new chapter began. Founded in 1662. A history woven by Onsen waters—Edo, Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, Reiwa. Surrounded by magnificent nature, the scent of the waters lingers as artifacts from different eras and worlds add color and elegance to the Ryokan. Let your thoughts drift to the founder, Mannemon Matsuzaka. A long-established Ryokan beloved since the Edo period as an Onsen Accommodation—so renowned it even appears in ukiyo-e prints by Utagawa Hiroshige. From meetings between Takayoshi Kido and Takamori Saigo to a stay by Bunroku Shishi, leading figures of the Meiji era once gathered here. Since then, many guests—including members of the Imperial Family—have continued to visit.What captivates visitors is our rare, highly beneficial spring water found only here: it contains all three celebrated skin-beautifying types—sulfur springs, sulfate springs, and bicarbonate springs. Another reason is our abundant flow rate of 200 liters per minute. We adhere strictly to “100% free-flowing from the source,” with no added water, no heating adjustments, and no circulation.Moreover, the history of Hakone Ashinoyu is said to date back to the Nara period—more than 1,200 years ago.Now come and savor Hakone’s finest famed hot spring—a place cherished through time—and enjoy being part of its continuing story into the future.

Kinnotake Sengokuhara is a Ryokan inspired by the famous Japanese tale "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter" (Taketori Monogatari). This mysterious story, whose author remains unknown, tells of a beautiful woman courted by five men, none succeeding in winning her heart... and ends with a fleeting romance with the emperor before she is taken back to the moon. With this enchanting tale as its concept, we have created a harmonious retreat blending Hakone's natural beauty with playful and extraordinary spaces designed to provide relaxation and escape from everyday life.

The two rooms, "Main Building Asama" and "Main Building Ashigara," were newly renovated as "Japanese Modern Style" and reopened on Thursday, July 22, 2021. Gora Kansuirou, originally a villa of the Iwasaki family of the former Mitsubishi conglomerate, opened in Showa 24. Guests can enjoy seasonal "kaiseki cuisine" featuring fresh mountain and seafood delicacies, along with two natural hot spring sources. Our Ryokan was established in 1870 (Meiji 3) as Ishimura Ryokan in the Nanpoen area, slightly south of its current location. The founder, who served as a head officer at the Hakone checkpoint during the Edo period, began developing Onsen in Owakudani during the early Meiji era and started operating as a healing retreat by drawing hot spring water from there. In 1913 (Taisho 2), we relocated to this site and renamed it Senkoro. For this reason, we are known as Sengokuhara's original Onsen retreat.Before World War II, Sengokuhara was a special area frequented by prominent figures from political and financial circles. The nearby Sengoku Golf Course was even played on by Emperor Showa alongside international diplomats.Many distinguished guests have stayed at our Ryokan over the years, including notable figures such as Eiichi Shibusawa, Kihachiro Okura, Kichizaemon Sumitomo, Aritomo Yamagata, Takashi Hara, Kiichiro Hiranuma; artists like Somei Yuki and Suiun Komuro; literary figures such as Kiyokata Kaburaki and Sotaro Yasui; and writers like Sohou Tokutomi, Masao Kumei, Chogoro Kaionji, Jun Takami among others.Sengokuhara is part of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park's special district with strict environmental regulations. Building height limits along with restrictions on colors, decorations or signage are rigorously enforced here. In front of our property lies Hakone’s outer rim mountains covered in lush greenery that turn beautifully red during autumn foliage season. Our expansive grounds of approximately 15 acres feature seasonal blooms such as azaleas, rhododendrons, wisteria flowers or wild cherry blossoms.Nearby attractions include Hakone Glass Museum (Hakone Garasunomori), Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands (Shisseikaen), The Little Prince Museum (Hoshi no Ojisama Museum), Pola Museum of Art; scenic spots like Lake Ashi or Owakudani; hiking destinations such as Mount Kintoki; golf courses including Hakone Lakeside Golf Course (Kohan Golf Course), Hakone Country Club & Daihakone Country Club plus sports facilities for tennis too! This makes it an ideal destination whether you enjoy outdoor activities or art appreciation alike!

A property to enjoy the nature of Hakone's outer mountains. Refresh in the spacious onsen bath and open-air bath. All guest rooms feature semi-open-air baths for private bathing. Buffet-style meals with Japanese and Western cuisine are also available. Enjoy karaoke rooms, mahjong rooms, and table tennis.

The summer night in Hakone is adorned with the Daimonji-yaki festival. From the spacious living room, you can enjoy the view of Mount Myojogatake, famous for the Daimonji-yaki in Hakone. Conveniently located near the station, making it ideal for sightseeing. Relax your travel fatigue in the Onsen. There are Japanese-style and Japanese-Western mixed-style rooms available. The Japanese-Western mixed-style room on the first floor (A101) allows you to stay with your dogs or cats.

Opened in March 2016. A simple-style No Meals Included Property newly added to "Hakone Kowakien." All Plans include a light breakfast, allowing for a relaxed and flexible stay. Also ideal as a base for Hakone sightseeing and Asama Mountain hiking.

Relax your body and mind with the soft, cloudy hot spring water directly from the source, and enjoy seasonal Japanese cuisine featuring fresh vegetables grown in Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and 'Gotemba Koshihikari' rice sourced directly from farmers. Dining while overlooking the garden is a special experience. Relaxing on tatami mats is also one of the pleasures. We offer rooms suitable for couples to groups.
