Located on the expansive grounds of Mount Nagara's hillside in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, is Enryakuji Temple (Miidera), boasting a 1,300-year history. Since the Heian period, it has been regarded as one of the four great temples alongside Todai-ji, Kofuku-ji, and Enryaku-ji. The temple holds 64 national treasures and 720 important cultural properties and has historical ties with notable warlords such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Mouri Terumoto. Within the grounds of Miidera stands "Myogon-in," a structure with over 400 years of history that has recently served an essential role as a monk's quarters. Now available for use as accommodation for one group per day only.
