Nara is the birthplace of Japanese culture. Along with the ink-making culture that thrived in Nara, many traditional crafts also originated here. At Hotel Tenpyo Naramachi, to allow guests to feel the culture of calligraphy, ink, and brushes, every Room features calligraphy created by calligraphers, monks, and artists, making it a Hotel where you can deeply experience the culture of Nara. The Property "Hotel Tenpyo Naramachi," located by Kofukuji Temple and Sarusawa Pond, offers a view of the scenery reflected in Sarusawa Pond, reminiscent of the times seen by the people of ancient days. Stand at the origin of Japan and take your time to enjoy the history, climate, and culture of this land.
Within walking distance to Todai-ji Temple, Kasuga-taisha Shrine, and the Naramachi area. We take pride in our private baths available for free and guest rooms with semi-open-air baths overlooking Sarusawa Pond. Wake up to the sound of the Kofuku-ji Temple bell, and start your morning with the procession of deer and rice cooked in a traditional stove. Enjoy a relaxing stay at our property.
In the old town of Nara, in the popular historic district of Naramachi with its traditional streetscape, you’ll find “Kaze no Naramachi.” This small Hotel has only eight rooms, preserving the beauty and craftsmanship of a traditional Japanese house—such as its kura storehouse and tea room—while offering modern comfort and functionality. With “SAKE HOTEL” as our concept—befitting the birthplace of sake—you can enjoy pairings of Toyosawa Shuzo’s sake with locally sourced fusion cuisine. Depending on the season, rare sakes may also be available. To help make your trip even more fulfilling, we also provide guidance on nearby sightseeing spots. Enjoy strolling through this atmospheric neighborhood and visiting cultural landmarks such as Kofuku-ji Temple, Todai-ji Temple, and Nara Park for a rich stay where you can experience history and discover Nara’s lesser-known charms.
