Dorogawa Onsen, a historic hot spring that began as a lodging to host practitioners visiting the sacred peak "Ōmine-san," a World Heritage site. This is the oldest property in the area, with a history of 500 years. You can fully enjoy the unique nostalgia, charm, and culture of Dorogawa.

KANAU is a hotel and restaurant that opened in April 2019 after renovating the nationally designated Important Cultural Property, "Kanau Former Imperial Residence." Located quietly along the clear stream of the Nyu River in Wada, northern Nishiyoshino Village, Nara Prefecture, this historic site dates back to the Jōkyū War of 1221. At that time, Fujiwara Tansan, who served as a Kumano official, responded to Emperor Gotoba's request and joined the Battle of Uji River. After their defeat, Tansan settled in Kanau instead of returning to his hometown Kumano. The current owner is the 29th generation descendant of Tansan. During the time of Hori Nobumasa (the fourth generation from Tansan), Emperor Go-Daigo was welcomed into Nobumasa's residence at Kanau after being driven out of Kyoto by Ashikaga Takauji at the end of Engen Year One (1336). This residence later served as an imperial palace for Emperors Go-Murakami, Chokei, and Go-Kameyama during Southern Court history. Today it welcomes you as Hotel & Restaurant KANAU.The gate designated as an Important Cultural Property features a plaque inscribed with "Imperial Residence" by Yoshimura Torataro from Tenchu-gumi. Next to this gate stands an Edo-period row house building used for accommodation. While its exterior remains unchanged from that era, its interior has been modernized for your comfort. Each room includes a piano available for free use—even overnight playing is allowed! Pets such as dogs are welcome to stay with you; there’s even an on-site dog run equipped with night lighting for added enjoyment.Although pets cannot enter inside our restaurant area itself—on our deck terrace overlooking riverside views—you can dine alongside your furry friends! The main building, a sukiya-style structure with 150 years of history, and the annex, built 70 years ago, offer a unique stay. The four limited Rooms available per day each have their own distinct charm. Preserving the essence of traditional Japanese architecture, the Rooms feature shoin-zukuri designs crafted with rare wood or renovated spaces such as a former storehouse. Guests can enjoy Onsen in a private cypress bath or an in-Room bath. For dinner, we offer Plans featuring shabu-shabu with the chef-selected premium pork "Miyabuton" or sukiyaki/shabu-shabu with Nara's renowned "Udabeef," served in your Room or a private dining room. For breakfast, savor the local specialty "chagayu" (tea porridge). Depending on the season, enjoy firefly viewing or river play at the private stream on the property, or have a BBQ in the garden in front of your Room. Relax in the 3,000-tsubo garden, which reflects the beauty of the four seasons, or spend a tranquil moment in the tea room.

From the property on the central highlands of Mount Yoshino, you can enjoy panoramic views of Naka Senbon Park, Kami Senbon Park, and the Mausoleum of Emperor Go-Daigo, experiencing the natural beauty that changes with each season. "Among the accommodations at Dorogawa Onsen, 'Atarashiya Ryokan' was the first to introduce onsen water, offering a blend of nostalgia and modernity. Especially, the snow-viewing bath by the riverside with snowmelt water is exceptional. Additionally, at our ryokan, you can savor wild boar hot pot with a secret sauce year-round."

As a property with a long history as a lodging for travelers, it offers a serene ambiance and heartfelt cuisine. It features the only onsen open-air bath in a room at Dorogawa Onsen, where you can relax in a hinoki wooden open-air bath. Additionally, the spacious rooms are suitable for families or groups. At the bottom of the ceramic open-air bath, there is a single character '笑', bringing smiles from the heart in a tranquil setting. You can also enjoy dishes prepared with abundant mountain and river delicacies.

Tenkawa Village Dorogawa, known since ancient times for its beautiful waters. Yuyado Marubun, located at the foot of the red bridge in the Onsen town, exudes a Taisho retro atmosphere. The cozy riverside Onsen large public bath and the red-carpeted interior are filled with retro charm. Our specialties include river fish such as ayu and trout raised in clear streams, and "Gorogoro Water" tofu made with one of Japan's top 100 famous waters. For sukiyaki and duck hot pot, we prepare 250g of meat per adult to ensure your satisfaction. The Property has a total of five Rooms. From the riverside Rooms, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the clear stream "Yamagami River" and "Ryusenji," a sacred site of Shugendo across the river. During the autumn foliage season (around early November each year), you can admire the vibrant giant maple trees right in front of the riverside guest Rooms. The breathtaking beauty exceeds expectations. From the riverside large public bath (men's bath), you can savor the lush scenery of the Yamagami River. Indulge in the high-quality Dorogawa Onsen, known for its smooth texture and reputation as a "beauty bath." Tenkawa Village, surrounded by mountains ranging from 1,000m to 2,000m in altitude, offers numerous natural attractions such as beautiful valleys and limestone caves. However, the highlight is the Onsen town scenery that unfolds in front of the Property. When the lanterns hanging from the eaves of the Ryokan and houses along the street are lit, a fantastical scene reminiscent of a time slip spreads out. Stroll through the retro Onsen town with the clatter of geta sandals, and enjoy local craft beer or a veranda café.
