Maruto Soy Sauce, Nara Prefecture’s oldest soy sauce brewery, has been reborn as a stayable soy sauce brewery.Founded in 1689, Maruto Soy Sauce was once purveyor to the Imperial Household—so esteemed that members of the Imperial Family even stayed here. After the war, however, the brewery was forced to close when it could no longer secure satisfactory ingredients. Now, using the microorganisms that remained in the kura since its closure, locally sourced ingredients, and brewing methods reconstructed from historical documents, the fires have been lit again for the first time in 70 years—reviving Maruto as a stayable soy sauce brewery.From traveler to brewer.Experience firsthand our revival of soy sauce making, local resources, and the timeless landscapes of Yamato—all in one place.

The traditional Japanese house that once operated as a fountain pen shop has been reborn as a high-quality Property. Inspired by the history of fountain pens, which were once the livelihood of Gose, we offer a serene stay where you can reflect your thoughts on paper. We present GOSE Local Gastronomy (expressing the region's climate, history, culture, and agricultural, forestry, and fishery practices through "cuisine"). Featuring ingredients unique to Gose, such as kudzu and duck, paired with local sake nurtured by the rich waters of Gose, we propose Western-style dishes that are loved by all. A Ryokan for adults with over 110 years of history, located on the highlands of the Shigisan National Park, offering majestic mountain views and tranquility. From the guest rooms and the large communal bath on the national park side, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Shigisan. Our carefully crafted creative Kaiseki cuisine, infused with Western essence, is meticulously prepared by our head chef using carefully selected seasonal ingredients. We personally visit producers to ensure the quality and passion behind the ingredients. Monthly tasting sessions are held within the team to perfect the seasonal Kaiseki menu. Responding to popular demand, in July 2022, we transformed the large communal bath and guest rooms with open-air baths into Onsen facilities. Additionally, our property is home to a variety of specialists, which adds to its charm. The master of our property is a "Sake Sommelier," and the proprietress is both a "Vegetable Sommelier" and an "Onsen Sommelier." What is a "Sake Sommelier"? A professional in Japanese sake, often referred to as the 'Sommelier of Sake.' At Kakimotoya, we carefully select local sake from Nara, matching the season and the monthly Kaiseki menu, and offer them with a professional touch. What is a "Vegetable Sommelier"?
