Maruto Soy Sauce, Nara Prefecture’s oldest soy sauce brewery, has been reborn as a stayable soy sauce brewery.Founded in 1689, Maruto Soy Sauce was once an esteemed brewery that served the Imperial Household and even welcomed members of the Imperial Family for extended stays. After the war, however, it was forced to close due to difficulties in sourcing satisfactory ingredients. Now, using the microorganisms that remained in the brewery since its closure, locally sourced ingredients, and brewing methods reconstructed from historical documents, production has resumed for the first time in 70 years—and the brewery has returned as a place where you can stay.From traveler to brewer.Experience soy sauce revival, local resources, and the timeless landscapes of Yamato—all in one place.
