We had a wonderful stay. The open-air bath was a very calming space, and we were able to relax while listening to the sound of water and insects. The shampoo was also comfortable and didn’t leave our hair feeling squeaky. The Ryokan itself was spacious and felt like a maze, making it fun to walk around as if exploring. The barley tea and apple rooibos tea after the bath were also a thoughtful touch. I hadn’t been reading much for quite some time, but using the “Kotoba no Atelier” inspired me to make time for reading again in my daily life after this stay. I also wrote a Tokitegami letter and had a lovely time. Breakfast was buffet-style and everything was delicious—especially the fruit punch. Before breakfast, I ground coffee beans for drip coffee, which was also excellent and made for a very fulfilling experience.

It was conveniently located close to Laguna Ten Bosch. We stayed in a Room with a private bath. The view was great, and the bath felt open and airy and was very clean—our children were delighted. The staff were very helpful, and the welcome services were also excellent. As you drive up the winding mountain road with hairpin turns, you’ll eventually spot the Hotel at the top. With expectations rising for a great view… Once inside, the large lobby windows more than delivered, offering a breathtaking panoramic view over Mikawa Bay. In the Japanese-style Room, two beds had been set up—an appreciated touch for us as an older couple. Of course, the view from the Room was spectacular as well. The large public bath had both an indoor bath and an open-air bath at just the right temperature, and it felt wonderful. I wanted to stay in forever, so I cooled off now and then by splashing lukewarm water or cold water on myself to avoid overheating before soaking again. (Laughs) Dinner featured Aichi beef sukiyaki and abalone steak. Both were so delicious I wished I could have eaten more—but after finishing everything served, I realized it was actually the perfect amount. These days buffets are common and I often end up overeating, so having table service in a restaurant like this felt calm and healthy. Okazaki Castle is also about an hour’s drive from the Hotel, and I was happy to be able to reflect on Tokugawa Ieyasu’s legacy there. Within the castle grounds, Mikawa Bushi no Yakata: Ieyasu Museum is thoughtfully designed with well-planned exhibits—I’d love to visit again at a slower pace.

It had been a while since I found a Ryokan that made me think, “I want to come back.” The view of Mikawa Bay right in front of us was truly stunning, and the sunset while soaking in the Onsen was unforgettable. The staff were all friendly and welcoming with warm smiles, which made our stay feel comfortable and worry-free. The meals, centered around seafood, were all delicious and very satisfying in portion size. The fresh sashimi especially left a lasting impression. Before visiting Himakajima, I researched accommodations and found that the reviews were not very favorable, so my expectations were low. However, the staff at the accommodation were all incredibly hospitable, providing exceptional service throughout my stay. While it was not an onsen, the large public bath was spacious and relaxing, offering a similar experience with views of Ise Bay and Mikawa Bay. The sunset from the room was extraordinary—a scene reminiscent of a novel's opening line describing "a magnificent twilight," visible across the peninsula. The only disappointment was hearing that octopus catches have been poor recently. I look forward to visiting again when I have another opportunity.
