Matsumaru Station × Highly rated Hotel·Ryokan

Due to a family bereavement, we had to travel from Kansai to Uwajima on short notice. As we weren’t familiar with the area and were traveling with an elderly person, the convenient location—almost like being inside the station—was very helpful. Only a smoking room was available, but it didn’t smell of cigarettes at all and we stayed comfortably. The water dispenser and unlimited coffee were great, and they also offer rentals such as a ReFa hair dryer and massage devices. The amenities were well stocked, and the shower had strong water pressure; the bathtub filled quickly, which really helped us recover from the fatigue of a long trip. Nearby shops seem to close early, so if you arrive close to the last train like we did, dinner options are basically limited to convenience stores—but the sea bream rice breakfast was absolutely excellent. We will stay here again when attending memorial services.

The freshly baked breakfast bread was incredibly delicious, and I had seconds many times. They kept baking more, so even when it ran out, I could quickly enjoy freshly baked bread again. I’m giving 4 stars because the Room was a bit small and there was only one hair dryer in the bathroom. Otherwise, I was satisfied. Thank you very much.

I’d like to stay at this hotel again. 　Since I walked, it honestly felt just a little far from the station. It may be tough if it’s raining or if you have a lot of luggage. However, I think it’s well worth it. Amenities are available next to the counter—you take only what you need—and you can also choose bath salts in your preferred scent. There is also a drink service, including Ehime mikan juice. There’s a supermarket within walking distance (bento boxes and prepared foods are inexpensive and delicious), so I bought side dishes for dinner there. The hotel also has about 2–3 microwaves. 　I was coming down with a cold and went looking for a drugstore, but it was a bit of a walk. Still, it gave me the chance to stroll around Uwajima’s castle town streets with their winding layout. Also, the nearby roads are somewhat dark, so I recommend heading out early (for check-in or shopping).

I visited Uwajima Castle for sightseeing. I was looking for an affordable Hotel close to the castle, so I chose this one. It felt quite old, but it was kept very clean. There were a few minor disappointments, such as the bidet only producing warm water for about three seconds and the vending machine that was said to be on the 4th floor being out of service, but overall I was satisfied. The large public bath in particular was great and felt like I had it all to myself. Breakfast was a Japanese set meal, and personally I wouldn’t have minded a bit more food… especially since it was tasty. There’s also a port-side roadside station (?) a short walk away that was quite fun, so if you have time, it might be worth stopping by.

If you love historic architecture, this Accommodation is atmospheric and well worth seeing. It’s a private rental (not an Onsen) and there’s no dinner service, but we were able to relax as if we had traveled back in time, without even turning on the TV. For dinner, there are restaurants within walking distance, and we went out for sea bream rice. The owner kindly explains the building in detail. We apparently missed them at check-in, so we spoke at check-out instead, and we were impressed by every detail—the craftsmanship is something that can’t be replicated today. While buildings like this are being demolished more and more, the owner hopes to preserve it, which made us want to visit again. For breakfast, they provide delicious bread and coffee, rich orange juice, milk, and more. It was truly a wonderful Accommodation. If you enjoy Registered Tangible Cultural Properties or historic buildings, this is a place you should definitely visit. At the owner’s recommendation, we also visited Garyu Sanso Villa (Garyu Sanso), which made it an even more memorable trip. Thank you very much. We will visit again.

Less than a 20-minute drive from Uwajima Station, the property is set in a lush green valley with wonderfully clear air. The calm, attentive staff handle everything from reception to table service. Meals feature creative dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, beautifully presented and just the right amount for someone with a small appetite like me. For drinks, you can enjoy an affordable three-glass tasting set of both wine and sake. The Onsen was quite hot, so I couldn’t soak for long (laugh). It was also a bit disappointing that early-morning bathing wasn’t available.

I was able to make a Reservation the night before. In Uwajima, during the festival when it was difficult to find any available Reservations, I was lucky to secure one. Additionally, I was guided to a covered parking space, which I greatly appreciated. The receptionist's polite and kind service made me very happy. Thank you so much. The breakfast was also delicious. If I have another chance, I would love to stay again. It was excellent and highly recommended!

Although I arrived late at night after traveling from far away, I was warmly welcomed. Thank you! There is a FamilyMart on the first floor, which is very convenient. The room was clean as well. I would like to stay again if I have the opportunity!

This was my first stay, and the food was incredibly delicious—both dinner and breakfast. The dessert at dinner was also excellent. The Onsen was clean and relaxing. However, the Room felt a bit small, and while the amenities were well stocked, there was no comb in the bath area, so I had to bring one from the Room, which was inconvenient. Everyone at the Hotel was very kind and responded to my questions politely.
