During the Meiji era, when Kobe opened its port to foreign trade, many foreigners visited Arima Onsen. The lush green grounds of "Arima Sanso Goshobessho" still retain the sacred atmosphere of that time. Goshobessho was established by Shirobei Kanai XV, the current head of "Tosen Goshobo," Arima Onsen's oldest accommodation.
