At the end of the Edo period, Arima Onsen was so bustling that it was known as "Arima Senken." In addition to "Bō," which were temple lodgings, there were also self-catering accommodations called "Koyado" attached to each temple lodging. Most of these had shops selling souvenirs, brushes, bamboo crafts, and other items on the first floor, with the upper floors serving as Koyado. Traces of this structure can still be seen today.
