We stayed here hoping to relax as a family of four with our two adult children. From the warm welcome in the parking lot to the welcome drink and escort to our Room, we were treated with outstanding hospitality. Every detail—from the entrance hall and corridors to the Room interior—showed great care and exceeded what we had seen on the website in advance. The large public bath is not huge, but since the number of guests is limited, it was more than sufficient. We also enjoyed being able to soak in Onsen anytime in the bath in our Room, which was wonderful for our family. The meals reflected the chef’s dedication (he is from Shiga Prefecture), and every dish was a delight for both the eyes and the palate. We also appreciated having time to unwind as a family in the lounge with drinks, making this a trip that left all of us completely satisfied. What we recommend most about this Accommodation is that every staff member provides genuinely pleasant service. In addition to taking care of what we needed, they entertained us with friendly, witty conversation. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again and again as a couple or with family. We stayed here for the first time on our wedding anniversary last year and loved it so much that we visited again for this year’s anniversary. The view from the Room was truly amazing. The food felt very summery, looked beautiful, and was absolutely delicious. It was very quiet, and we were able to relax and take our time. Thank you very much. The only thing that concerned me this time—though it may just be a matter of personal preference—was the smell as soon as we entered the Room. I thought it might have been potpourri placed in the hallway, but each time we walked through the hallway it smelled strange. We would like to visit again in autumn with my mother, and we are looking forward to it.

The atmosphere of the main building was wonderful. Maintaining such a historic building must take a lot of effort, so I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and well kept it was. This time we chose the newer wing where we could enjoy the Onsen in our Room, but next time I would love to stay in one of the lovely Rooms in the main building, such as Sanraku or Kumoi. Dinner and drinks were delicious, and being able to enjoy them in our Room made it feel truly luxurious. All of the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming, and we made great summer memories. We will definitely come again.

If you’re staying in Gero for the architecture, Yunoshimakan is the place; if you’re staying for great food, I’d say this is it—Suimeien. Every dish was delicious, and the ayu sweetfish in particular was outstanding. The annex where we stayed was an adults-only area, which may be why it was so quiet at night. I was able to truly relax for the first time in a while. It also felt special to have access to a private Onsen reserved exclusively for annex guests—it was a fun and memorable experience. Both large public baths had towels available at the entrance, so there was no need to go back to the Room to get one. I could enjoy the Onsen anytime on a whim without bringing anything with me. (I especially liked the large bath on the first floor.) There is also a spot inside where you can enjoy coffee while looking outside; after breakfast, I spent a relaxing time reading there. I was amazed at how spotless everything was throughout the property—surely thanks to the excellent work of your housekeeping staff. It truly became a wonderful trip. Thank you very much. I will definitely stay again.

This time, due to the circumstances of the original accommodation (Bokakakan), we stayed at Ryokan Gero Onsen Sasara. Initially, we were a bit anxious, but we were completely satisfied with the meals, room, onsen, and staff. This accommodation is one we would like to use again when visiting Gero Onsen.

A truly exceptional Hotel, offering simple elegance and abundant free-flowing Onsen water sourced from Gero’s natural spring. Attentive staff and housekeeping, along with a well-organized Room. A warm and welcoming second home you’ll want to return to again and again.

This was my first stay here. We stayed in a Japanese-Western style Room in the Sasara building, which had been renovated and was very clean. The staff member assisting us was a foreigner, so some explanations of the meals were a little hard to understand, but it was clear they had studied well. Every dish was delicious. By chance, it was the first day of the Gero Onsen Festival, and I was moved to be able to watch the fireworks while soaking in the open-air bath at night. We were able to relax and enjoy our time.

More than 40 years ago, when I was a child, I stayed here with my mother, my older brother, and a family who were acquaintances of my mother. I could barely remember anything other than the name, but after all these years, I’m glad I was able to stay again—this time with my own family. The portions at both dinner and breakfast were very satisfying, and I was happy to have my favorite hoba miso. I love Gero, so if I have the chance, I’d like to stay again.

I stayed at Ogawaya for two nights, and dinner was excellent on both days. The second night in particular made me very happy with its full Hida beef course. Breakfast also offers a wide variety of dishes and is delicious. There are many staff members from Southeast Asia, and most of them provide warm hospitality with sincere effort and a smile. The Room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The welcome sweet, blueberry daifuku, was also delicious! It would be even better if the skincare amenities were a bit higher quality. Thank you very much.

The Room staff were very friendly and attentive to every detail, and although we were traveling with my parents in their 90s, we had a comfortable stay. It was also great that the bath was available 24 hours a day.

Thank you very much for your hospitality. The property was thoroughly cleaned down to the smallest details, and I was able to relax. Fresh flowers were displayed in the Room, and although it faced the mountain side, we could still see the fireworks. It had a lovely atmosphere. The sauna temperature was not too high and felt just right. The cold water was also not too cold, which was great. I would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

I traveled solo for one night and two days from 9/6 to 9/7, and soaking in the water truly lived up to what you’d expect from Gero Onsen—I felt refreshed both physically and mentally. The meals were just the right amount, not too much or too little, and everything was delicious. Unfortunately, it rained so I couldn’t do much sightseeing, which was a bit disappointing, but I did make it to the morning market. I’d like to visit Gero Onsen again someday.

I booked a 3-night stay for the ayu fishing tournament with No Meals Included, but thank you for accommodating my request to add meals for two days. The variety of baths helped me relax and recover from fatigue. Personally, I would be happy if there were a coin laundry available. I’ll do my best so I can come again next year. I’m very satisfied.

I stayed solo, and for a Ryokan with Onsen, it felt like there were quite a few solo guests. There are two large public baths, including a rooftop open-air bath, and they were spacious and comfortable. The buffet-style meals offered a wide variety of dishes, with frequent refills, so I was very satisfied. Overall satisfaction was high, but the building layout is complex with many stairs due to changes in elevation, which may not suit elderly guests.

I’ve been making regular Reservations at this beloved Accommodation for about 10 years now. They always welcome me warmly, and the atmosphere is homey and incredibly comfortable. The Accommodation is also clean and well maintained. On top of that, the proprietress and the head chef are both wonderful people. The Onsen uses pure natural spring water, so the quality is excellent—it warms you to the core and leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized. And above all, the food is simply outstanding. Each dish is brought out freshly prepared, so everything is served hot. You can really feel the care in every detail—beautifully presented with refined flavors. Everything is delicious, but I was especially amazed by the breakfast miso soup. Personally, it was the best I’ve ever had! In every way, satisfaction here is consistently high—an Accommodation that makes you want to come back right away. I’ll be making another Reservation soon. Please take good care of yourselves—I’m looking forward to seeing you again next time.

We stayed here during the three-day holiday weekend in July. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The cute little touches throughout made us smile. The massage chair was also very relaxing. In addition, the host’s hospitality was excellent, and my companion said it was wonderful as well. Thank you very much.

Due to unexpected weather during our trip, we ended up staying at this Hotel. It was our first time at a pension, but the warm hospitality of the owner and his wife left a lasting impression. We also felt a special connection as the owner's wife’s family home is near ours. We were amazed by the delicious Hida beef, as we usually have Yamagata or Sendai beef. The meals were homely yet offered flavors beyond what we could experience at home. We will definitely visit again when traveling nearby!

I stayed here again for the first time in a year with my sister and my 95-year-old mother. We requested the same top-floor Room as last year, with a private bath. The bath is filled with Onsen water, and since my mother’s legs have weakened and she can’t go to the large public bath, our main purpose was to let her soak in the Onsen. Another highlight is the wonderful service from the female staff at the dining venue—warm, pleasant, and truly excellent. The meals are of course delicious too (haha)! The only drawback is that the lounge in the first-floor lobby is not barrier-free. It would be perfect if there were a ramp.
