In conclusion, this Accommodation offered outstanding value for money! I had made separate one-night Reservations for different Rooms, but when availability opened up, I was able to stay in the same Room for two nights. I chose the Deluxe Japanese-style Room, and upgrading was definitely the right decision. The first thing I did after arriving was head straight to the Onsen. The water quality was incredible—silky and pleasantly smooth—and it genuinely felt like it left my skin refreshed. The washing area is spacious, and the indoor bath is more than large enough. The open-air bath is a bit smaller, but the water was so clean and soothing that it didn’t matter at all. I would happily come back just for this Onsen. The meals were also excellent. Although it’s a buffet, it wasn’t the typical “hotel buffet” with mass-produced dishes. Instead, each item felt carefully prepared. There aren’t countless options, but both the taste and quality were more than satisfying. I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of two nights, and the initial plated dish (separate from the buffet) featured different ingredients on each day—both were delicious. Some buffet items also changed on day two, so I never felt bored even with dinner twice in a row. The wood-fired pizza was especially good—I ended up eating too much on both days. Honestly, if you ate this dinner every day you’d definitely gain weight (in a good way). It was nothing like an ordinary hotel buffet that simply reheats frozen food. Breakfast was just as good. The view from the Room was amazing as well, which made me even happier that I chose the Deluxe Japanese-style Room. By luck I was on the top floor (5th floor), with a full view of Happo-One Ski Resort—including the ski jump—so it felt fantastic. I honestly think this Accommodation has one of the best vantage points in the area in terms of seeing over the entire resort and how close it feels to the mountains. Switching to two nights in this Deluxe Japanese-style Room was absolutely worth it. If you’re unsure which side to choose, I highly recommend a ski-resort-facing Room. The Accommodation itself may be somewhat older, but there wasn’t a single place where it felt old (or dirty). If anything, it feels very clean throughout. Even my window had been thoroughly cleaned, so I could enjoy their proud ski-resort view through spotless glass. All staff members were kind and welcoming with genuine smiles, which made my stay even better. I would absolutely like to stay here again.

Newly Renovated! Relaxation, Serenity, Cuisine, and Hot Springs. A cozy accommodation with only 4 rooms.

This was our first trip to Hakuba with my daughter, and we were very satisfied with this accommodation. With only four rooms, each uniquely designed, we chose the "Condo" room this time. The room featured beautiful interior design, offering a luxurious and private experience. My daughter was delighted as well. For us, the enjoyment of a trip heavily depends on the accommodation's room and meals, and Kunugi exceeded all expectations with its hospitality and cleanliness. One of the highlights was the bath facilities—three options including indoor baths and an outdoor Asian-style bath that required a reservation. The outdoor bath had a tropical resort vibe where we could relax while enjoying views of the garden. It was so pleasant that I ended up using it twice—once in the evening and again in the morning. Dinner consisted of a full-course menu featuring fish and meat dishes that were casual yet delicious. The French toast served at breakfast was also excellent, which made my daughter very happy once again. Having stayed at many hotels or ryokans before, I believe accommodations like Kunugi—with its originality and exceptional hospitality—are rare to find. While winter is likely their peak season due to increased demand, visiting during off-season periods like now through autumn offers more reasonable rates. Summer in Hakuba feels like experiencing Japan’s traditional landscapes—a truly unique region worth visiting. We will definitely return for another stay! The owner was incredibly kind—a wonderful host—and even provided shuttle service for us. Thank you so much for making this summer trip such an unforgettable experience!

A luxury resort chalet in Hakuba where you can immerse yourself in nature, featuring a sauna.

We stayed for one night over the Obon holidays as a family, and everything was excellent. The Facility matched the photos, was very clean, and we had a truly comfortable stay. When we arrived, the tarp and BBQ set were already prepared, so we could start enjoying a barbecue right away—wonderful. There was also a Miele front-opening dishwasher, which made it very convenient for a large group to wash and dry dishes automatically. What we especially liked was that the LDK is on the first floor, and there is also one bedroom on the first floor. Even among luxury villas I researched extensively, it’s rare to find this layout plus a sauna, so I think it’s quite valuable. It also seems very easy to use when traveling with elderly guests or anyone with limited mobility, since it reduces the need to go up and down stairs. The wood deck is designed to be hard to see from the road, and it isn’t fully exposed from neighboring homes either—privacy was well considered. You can see an apartment-like building a few hundred meters away, so you probably wouldn’t want to sunbathe completely nude outside (haha), but it still feels nicely private. The sauna goes up to 90°C maximum, so those who prefer an authentic high-temperature sauna might find it slightly lacking. However, relaxing outdoors after the cold bath on an infinity chair or in a hammock was truly amazing. We had originally extended late check-out by two hours, and when we asked for an additional two-hour extension, they kindly responded quickly since there were no upcoming Reservations. The staff service was excellent as well. We were satisfied with everything—the Facility, layout, comfort level, privacy considerations, and staff support. It made for a wonderful family trip.
