Katsuura Station × Highly rated for dining at Hotel·Ryokan

This was my first time visiting Katsuura, Chiba Prefecture, and I stayed for one night. I was completely satisfied with everything—the Room, the meals, and the staff’s service. At night, I even saw a shooting star from the balcony. It is a quiet Accommodation where I could relax and unwind. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

Perhaps because we stayed on a weekday when there were fewer guests, we were able to enjoy a calm and relaxing time. It was quiet and surrounded by the sounds of nature, and even our senior dog could play to their heart’s content. The meals also reflect a dedicated commitment to gastrotourism, showcasing great care and impressive skill. With only the essential services provided, we appreciated the kindness of being given space to relax freely.

We searched for a well-reviewed Onsen with an ocean view and decided to stay here. From check-in to being shown to our Room, and even during meals, the staff always served us with a smile, making our stay very pleasant. The meals were very luxurious and absolutely delicious. The ocean-view terrace was also beautiful, and we were able to relax at our leisure. This is a Facility we would love to visit again.

A hidden gem at our breakfast restaurant is the Fisherman's Bowl, also known as Mago Chazuke. Served in a special bowl with half a portion of white rice, namero (minced fish), shirasu (whitebait), pickled plum, grated yam, shredded seaweed, wasabi, and dashi broth. Perfect for those looking to replenish salt and energy during summer fatigue—give it a try! Enjoy it with the scent of the sea and ocean breeze! We have a suggestion: how about offering an "Ahi Creative Tuna Bowl" during lunchtime someday? GINGER or SPICY Ahi bowls are extremely popular in Hawaii. We believe it would be perfect for SAYAN's lunch menu and could become a hit dish. You can compare it to OFF THE HOOK or MAGURO SPOT—Ono!! Announcement! My wife and I stayed for one night with our two dogs! It depends on what you’re looking for, but: The beach is a 10-second walk away. Dinner is served in your Room, and the sashimi was delicious. The view from the window is nothing but ocean—perfect for relaxing as a family. Recommended for anyone who wants a stress-free stay without running into other guests.

We stayed for one night and two days. Unfortunately, it rained, but the Room was spacious and comfortable, so we were able to relax and enjoy our time. The BBQ dinner was prepared in advance, making it easy even for beginners to enjoy with peace of mind. We would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

The food was outstanding. For dinner, the splendid alfonsino, abalone, and spiny lobster were all delicious, and the portions were more than we could finish. Breakfast was also excellent—the spiny lobster miso soup was especially tasty. The relaxation room offered free ice cream and coffee, as well as electric massage chairs. While the exterior and some common areas were not very clean, the guest rooms and dining area had been renovated.

We happened to stay right when the pool opened, but unfortunately the weather was terrible and we couldn’t swim. What a shame! Still, we were very satisfied with the Room atmosphere and the course meal, and we were able to relax thoroughly. We’ve visited Harvest in Nasu and Hakone (Sengokuhara), but it’s a pity that Katsuura doesn’t have an open-air bath. Sorry for being picky. We’ll be back again.

We had a very fulfilling two-night stay in July. The all-you-can-eat meals were all delicious, and we especially enjoyed the salmon roe. Our child absolutely loved the floating water obstacle course and the spa. We also really liked the pillows—so much that we’d love to buy the same ones. Is there anywhere we can purchase them? We’d love to stay again!

This resort condominium is used as a Hotel. What people look for in an Accommodation varies, but it should be judged by the balance between price and value. The Onsen is free-flowing from the source and is excellent. The Room is spacious and easy to use. The meals are Japanese cuisine and delicious. I stayed for three nights, and at this price it’s a great choice. It’s perfect for relaxing in the Onsen while working or taking a restful break. I plan to stay again.

I often stay at R9 container hotels on road trips. Many of them seem to be located along major highways, but the R9 in Katsuura was right in front of the ocean, giving it a pleasant resort-like feel. There’s a 7-Eleven next door, which made shopping very convenient. There are many ways to enjoy traveling, but even without an Onsen Ryokan or a Resort Hotel that includes dinner, I think this Hotel is ideal for drive trips like mine and for riders. Having enough parking spaces to match the number of Rooms is a big plus for me. Also, this was my first time staying at a two-story R9 Hotel (most other R9 locations are single-story container units, right?). I used a single Room this time, but the few suite-style Rooms would be perfect for families or groups of friends. That’s how it felt. I’d love to stay again.

Although it was a basement Room, I was surprised by the high quality. The bathroom and toilet had a sophisticated design and felt very clean. I wished there had been a place to hang wet towels. It’s conveniently located right in front of the station, so I’d like to stay again. I was also satisfied with dinner at the izakaya inside the Hotel.

We came back for a second try to see the fireflies after missing them last year. Perhaps thanks to the good weather and temperature that day, we were able to enjoy a breathtaking display of fireflies like a sky full of stars—it was truly moving! Being welcomed by the cats was also very soothing. We’d love to visit again next year.

Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. There are no nearby houses, and although we had heard that muntjac sometimes damage the fields, we enjoyed a salad made with freshly picked lettuce and herbs from those very fields. I was hoping to see a muntjac. The bamboo grove behind the property was beautiful.

Thank you for taking care of us over the New Year holidays. It felt like a peaceful retreat, surrounded by the quiet of nature away from the crowds. The wood interior was calming, and our family was able to relax while our dog ran around the yard in excitement and enjoyed it to the fullest. The sukiyaki dinner, made with locally sourced ingredients, was excellent in both taste and portion size. The selection of wines was also very delicious. Breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes and was just as satisfying; the grilled salmon was perfectly cooked—fluffy and outstanding. We would love to stay at LAKOTAN again to enjoy the scenery that changes with each season.

I stayed here recently, and it was a truly wonderful Ryokan! Above all, the meals were incredibly lavish, and every dish was delicious. I especially loved the miso soup with spiny lobster. I got to fully enjoy the seafood and was completely satisfied! The proprietress was also very friendly and shared lots of stories with us. Rather than feeling like we were staying at a Ryokan, it felt like visiting a warm family home—such a welcoming, homey atmosphere left a strong impression. When I went out for an evening walk, she turned out to be very knowledgeable about constellations and taught me all sorts of things about them—another lovely memory. The Room was very spacious, and since it had just been renovated, it was clean and comfortable. The ocean view from the in-room bath and the balcony was absolutely stunning—I could have stared at it forever. It felt almost “a shame to sleep,” because I enjoyed such a luxurious time. It’s also close to the beach, so after swimming you can head straight to the Ryokan bath—another great plus. Everything flowed smoothly up to dinner time as well, so even after playing in the sea we could relax at our own pace. The Ryokan bath also featured beautiful carvings that showed real attention to detail, making it wonderfully soothing. I’d recommend this Ryokan for both family trips and getaways with your partner. If you want delicious food, a beautiful sea view, and warm hospitality, you should definitely stay here!

About 25 years ago, I visited the Katsuura Morning Market with my children and had a great time, so I went again this time. This time it was the three of us: my wife, my mother-in-law, and me. Both Katsuura Beach and the morning market were close by, so the location was perfect. There was no large public bath—only an in-room bath (available 24 hours)—and it wasn’t an Onsen, which was a bit disappointing, but my mother-in-law was very satisfied. Dinner was Japanese-Western (French? Italian?), and I felt a little sorry for my mother-in-law, but she seemed happy with it, so all good. The photos include some taken while we were eating and even after we finished (lol).

This year, we opted for a Multiple Night Stay again. Our dog had so much fun in the spacious dog run that it didn’t want to leave. Although the weather wasn’t great, we enjoyed playing badminton and table tennis in the multipurpose hall, which made the kids very happy. During breaks in the rain, we of course used the pool. The buffet offered a different menu each day, so even with a Multiple Night Stay, it never got boring. Everything was delicious, but the bread and desserts were truly exceptional. The pet hotel was spacious and nice; however, there was some competition for beds in the upper room while downstairs... not as much excitement there. The bathroom and toilet were spacious too, but having all water facilities only on the second floor was slightly inconvenient. It would be great if they could upgrade their hairdryers as well. On a positive note, I appreciated that they used tissue-style toilet paper instead of roll-type ones—if only hotels and ryokans across The Whole Country adopted this! In summer when you sweat a lot, having access to coin laundry is very convenient. We’ll definitely come back again next year!

I traveled with my dog and my elderly parents. Because my mother was undergoing breast cancer treatment, we ruled out Accommodations with large shared baths that would be used together with other guests. That’s why this kind of private, whole-house rental traditional farmhouse Accommodation was truly appreciated, and it was our first time staying here. We also found the service very comfortable—welcoming and thoughtful, yet not intrusive, with just the right sense of distance. Since the interior is a renovated old house, most areas are wooden floors except for the tatami Room(s). To be honest, that can be hard on a dog’s paws, but if you bring blankets or similar items and make sure your dog has soft places to rest and walk on as much as possible, it isn’t an issue at all. The meals provided were also delicious, and we were very satisfied. There was even a massage chair in the spacious earthen-floor area, which our family took turns using. It seems there are several other Accommodations in this series as well, so next time I’d like to visit a different one too.
