Hotel Monterey Kyoto is designed around the Arts & Crafts movement of Scotland in northern England and the historic city of Edinburgh. Kyoto and Edinburgh are sister cities, and they share many similarities as beautiful ancient capitals in Europe and Asia, with historic streetscapes and traditional lifestyles and culture. The design is based on a shared culture of craftsmanship.
THE HIRAMATSU Kyoto was born on Muromachi Street in Nakagyo Ward, the heart of Kyoto—an area dotted with long-established shops and convenient for sightseeing. A traditional Kyoto machiya townhouse, steeped in the city’s history and culture, has been given new value and reborn as an urban luxury Hotel. The Hotel features a kappo restaurant and a restaurant, and offers 29 spacious guest rooms where you can relax despite being in the city center. The design was supervised by Nakamura Sotoji Komuten of Kyoto, renowned in Japan and abroad as a leading workshop for sukiya-style architecture.
Opened within "Shinpukan," a space that combines the preserved section of the historic former Kyoto Central Telephone Office with a newly constructed building, designed in collaboration between renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and LA-based Commune Design.
