This Hotel is located on the site of the former Shirakawa Elementary School in Kyoto, which closed in 2011 and has over 100 years of academic history since its establishment as an elementary school. Surrounded by cultural landmarks such as Heian Shrine, ROHM Theatre Kyoto, and The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, this location offers a unique blend of vibrant tourist attractions and the authentic daily life of Kyoto residents. The building, constructed during the mid-Meiji and Taisho periods, features the Gion townhouse style, preserving the traditional charm of old Japan. It has been renovated to enhance comfort while maintaining its original form and ambiance. After the war, Nobel Prize-winning author Yasunari Kawabata visited Jugiya and remarked, "This is a quintessential Kyoto home." Today, Jugiya still retains the atmosphere of that time.
