Enjoy a stay in a historic setting with a traditional Japanese garden, and savor chef-selected cuisine.

"Tsubonakagawa" is a relocated and restored traditional Japanese inn originally known as "Nakagawa," which was dismantled in 1983 from its location in Akasaka, Tokyo. The first "Nakagawa" was built in 1927 but was demolished during wartime evacuations. The current structure was rebuilt in August 1951 and served as a venue for military, financial, and political dignitaries until 1982. Preserving as much of the original authenticity as possible, we have carefully restored the building to allow guests to experience its historical essence firsthand. The front garden is the only pure Japanese garden designed by Zenko Adachi, founder of the Adachi Museum of Art. This historic estate with its unique stories is available for exclusive rental as part of Okudogo Ichiyu no Mori Royal Suite accommodations.

Established during the Edo Kanei era, this long-standing inn continues to weave history in Dogo, offering timeless relaxation.

Dogo Onsen, Japan’s oldest hot spring with a history of around 3,000 years, has long been celebrated as one of the nation’s finest. It has been praised in poetry under names such as “Nigitatsu no Iwayu” and “Iyo no Yuketa.” Funaya Ryokan (today’s “Funaya”) opened here during the Kan’ei era of the Edo period. For more than 390 years since, it has continued to be cherished as a lodging for countless travelers. Dogo is mentioned in ancient works such as the Nihon Shoki and the Manyoshu, but it was Natsume Soseki’s novel Botchan that made its name widely known. The haiku “Hajimete no Funaya-domari o shigurekeri” was composed when Soseki stayed here in the autumn of 1893, the year he arrived in Matsuyama to teach. Funaya Ryokan has also been favored by literary figures connected to Matsuyama, including Masaoka Shiki and Takahama Kyoshi. At Dogo Onsen Funaya, you can enjoy a vast garden of approximately 1,500 tsubo (about 5,000 m²), complete with a flowing stream. Throughout the property, we have carefully blended traditional charm with a fresh sense of renewal. Please savor an unforgettable moment on your journey.
