\2024 Renovation of Selected Guest Rooms, Deck Terrace, Entrance Building, and Private Baths/ Since ancient times, the port town of Tomo has thrived as a harbor for waiting tides. The wooden main entrance with traditional roof tiles and Bengara red coating is a restored architectural piece from the past. The predecessor of Onfunato Chikutei, Kago Fuji Inn, was a beloved accommodation for many literary figures. We welcome you with an atmosphere rich in history that seems to echo the footsteps of those who walked through different eras.
The port town of Onomichi, which has flourished in the maritime industry since the Middle Ages, has developed a unique culture through the exchange of numerous people, goods, and wealth. This "miniature garden-like city" woven by the sea, mountains, and islands is a place where you can enjoy the "bounty of the mountains and sea," including seafood from the Seto Inland Sea such as oysters, local vegetables grown in the warm climate, and seasonal fruits.[Onomichi Hansei] is a small inn with a restaurant that inherits over 250 years of history, featuring 13 rooms. It is a renewed version of the restaurant [Tohan], which originated from the culinary inn [Ehan] loved by late Edo period patriots and Hirobumi Ito. We have created a stay where you can feel close to the "traditions and food culture of Onomichi" while being inside the facility, starting with the "cuisine showcased by the small inn with a restaurant" that inherits the history of the former restaurant. The concept of [Onomichi Hansei] is "Heartful, Japanese Modern Classic." We offer hospitality with services that mainly delight female guests, incorporating a "Japanese Modern Classic" taste into the interior decorations and room designs.
Onomichi flourished as a key hub in Japan where people, goods, information, and culture came and went. The social setting where wealthy merchants entertained guests through the tea ceremony was known as a “Chaen,” and a long-established Ryokan that has long served this role in Onomichi has been reborn as “Ryokan Onomichi Nishiyama,” an Accommodation that carries Onomichi’s culture into the present day. Surrounding a spacious garden overlooking the Seto Inland Sea are six detached buildings with eight guest rooms, each with its own distinct character. In the main building, we also offer double rooms with views of the Seto Inland Sea and its islands. Enjoy our lounge inspired by a Setouchi sake storehouse, available for you to use freely during your stay. Embraced by expansive gardens and the waters of Setouchi, spend a moment freed from everyday life.
