Toto Japanese Folk Toy Museum Kura no Yado is a private rental Accommodation created by renovating a rice storehouse on the banks of the Kurashiki River, said to be the oldest among the museum’s group of buildings. From the windows facing the river, you can enjoy views of the water and townscape, with Mukoyama in the distance. The Japanese Folk Toy Museum is a privately run museum specializing in folk toys, collecting and exhibiting traditional toys made across Japan from the Edo period through the early Showa era. This kura also marks where it all began: in 1967 (Showa 42), when the museum opened at the recommendation of Yoshinosuke Tonomura, first director of the Kurashiki Folkcraft Museum, it served as its very first exhibition room. Toto Kurashiki Mingeikan Minami Accommodation consists of three Accommodations—“Riverside Accommodation,” “Inner Accommodation,” and “Rear Accommodation”—created by restoring a building long used as a medical clinic into an Accommodation.“Riverside Accommodation” is a renovated attic space in a Meiji-era building that served as a clinic for many years.
