In the late Edo period, in the tenth year of Tenpō (1839), Izutsu-an was established as an inn for travelers and monks visiting Higashi Honganji, the head temple of the Jōdo Shinshū sect. Since then, for over 170 years, we have cherished Kyoto's traditions while providing the best hospitality of the times. Today, we are loved and frequented by numerous literary and artistic figures from both Japan and abroad.

The staircase connecting the first and second floors is adorned with blue washi paper. The water facilities, including a serene bathroom with dark gray Genkan stone and a kitchen equipped with an IH stove for self-catering, have been completely updated for ease of use.
