The Akakura Kanko Resort Hotel was founded in 1937 (Showa 12). Built by the Okura Zaibatsu following the Kamikochi Imperial Hotel and Kawana Hotel, it is a pioneer among Japan's Resort Hotels. The Hotel is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters, where a sea of clouds can sometimes be seen below. In addition to the timeless charm since its founding, all rooms and the Japanese restaurant were renovated in 2008. Furthermore, on December 12, 2009, a large public bath with open-air baths, a spa salon, and guest rooms with open-air Onsen were newly opened. Maintaining its historical and elegant atmosphere and the spirit of hospitality cultivated through tradition, the Hotel offers an even more comfortable and relaxing environment.

Located in the nature-rich city of Myoko, Niigata Prefecture, Akakura Onsen is a historic hot spring area with over 200 years of history. Kounkaku is an Onsen Accommodation that has stood in this area since the opening of Akakura Onsen. After renovating the former Ryokan's large communal bath over a decade, it reopened in 2024 as a small private rental Onsen Accommodation. Out of approximately 90 square meters, 26 square meters are dedicated to a natural onsen bath with free-flowing hot spring water, accommodating up to four guests. Equipped with amenities such as a kitchen and washer-dryer, it is perfect for long-term stays and offers the comfort of a private villa.
