With only ten rooms, Kounkan. When you visit us, let your five senses relax and enjoy, escaping the daily hustle. Our hospitality is dedicated to your five senses.

Our inn is a hot-spring retreat for guests aged 20 and over.In the early Meiji era, the 14th proprietor, Yoshishige Fukuda, opened a new annex in Ikaho, Joshu—“Oku Ikaho Ryotei Kaichoro”—distinct in style from the family’s long-established inn.In “Kaichoro,” “Kai” signifies tranquility, and “Cho” expresses our wish for guests to spend their time here slowly and at ease; with that hope in mind, we chose this name. From our carefully crafted cuisine to refined pure Japanese-style rooms and high-grade rooms with an emphasis on design, all guest rooms feature a private open-air bath. We also offer a spa and reservable private open-air baths, ensuring you can fully enjoy your stay.

The property located by the shores of Akaya Lake features seven non-smoking rooms, all with lake views, and boasts the gentle Sarugakyo Onsen flowing directly from the source. From the windows, guests can enjoy seasonal scenery and views of Akaya Lake, experiencing a tranquil time away from daily life. In the spacious Japanese-style rooms, dinner includes a creative Japanese kaiseki meal full of seasonal flavors, and breakfast is a traditional Japanese meal. The traditional Japanese garden also offers different delights with each visit.
