I visited Shiobara Onsen with my 84-year-old mother from Taiwan on a family trip. The inn is quiet and cozy, with only 11 rooms. Thanks to the staff’s warm hospitality, my mother felt at ease throughout our stay. Dinner was a kaiseki meal made with seasonal ingredients, and this time we chose the rare soft-shelled turtle course. I was surprised when they even served soft-shelled turtle blood, but it became a memorable food experience unique to traveling. The hot springs are 100% free-flowing from the source. We stayed in the “Izumo” room, a spacious guest room overlooking the Hoki River, with both an open-air bath and an indoor bath. The two private reservable baths were also large and beautiful, and what impressed me most was that my mother could enjoy the hot springs without worrying about others. The scenery, cuisine, hot springs, and hospitality were all wonderful—an unforgettable set of memories with my mother.

As my parents have gotten older and we don’t know how many more trips we’ll be able to take together, I invited my brother and brought my daughter for a family trip. Because my mother has rheumatoid arthritis, we chose this Accommodation on the conditions that the Room had an open-air bath and that all five of us could stay in the same Room. It turned out to be far better than we imagined. We arrived late for check-in, but we were warmly welcomed and given a courteous explanation. Women can choose their preferred yukata pattern to wear inside the Accommodation. The lobby offered complimentary drinks including alcohol; I had a drink for the first time in 10 years, and it was delicious. There were also three kinds of cookies, all of which we enjoyed. Many of the staff were young, and everyone provided very polite service. Because the Accommodation is small and intimate, we rarely ran into other guests, which allowed us to relax completely. Every meal was excellent. Thank you as well for accommodating my child’s allergies. For breakfast, they served a Western-style option for children, so there were many items my child could eat, which made us very happy. Both the Room and the open-air bath seemed new and were spotless—there is nothing to complain about—but above all else, the view is outstanding. The river flows right in front of you, and you can enjoy it almost privately not only from the lobby but also from your Room. We were truly moved by it. We heard that peak autumn foliage is around early November, so next time I would like to make a Reservation around then if possible. If I may make one request: I would appreciate it if cleansing oil could be provided in the Room. When I asked at reception they kindly brought it right away so it wasn’t an issue in practice; however, some guests may use only the in-room open-air bath without going elsewhere, so I hope you will consider it. Lastly, thank you very much for helping us create such wonderful memories on this trip.

The private bath was especially amazing! The water quality and atmosphere were wonderful, and it was truly relaxing. Lately, many hotels have a lot of foreign staff, and sometimes subtle nuances don’t come across, but here all the staff are Japanese, so the service was very attentive and made us feel at ease. Highly recommended!

At the entrance of the inn, you can enjoy drinkable hot spring water. The warm water, which has been flowing since ancient Roman times, was revered as “sacred water with healing powers.” Its energy and mineral-rich nutrients, nurtured by nature, are truly one of a kind. It feels like it supports not only your well-being but also your good fortune.

As a self-employed person, it’s hard for me to take time off, but I was finally able to bring my elderly mother—who had been saying for so long that she wanted to visit an Onsen—for a one-night stay. I chose this Accommodation after reading Reviews, hoping we could relax more than at a large Hotel. Since we stayed on a weekday at the end of summer, the rooms were only about half occupied, which was also nice. The staff were all smiling and pleasant. We checked in early and enjoyed the Onsen before dinner. Dinner was served in private dining rooms with table seating. There were many dishes, but each portion was small enough to enjoy comfortably; everything was served warm at just the right pace, and the flavors and seasoning were perfect—we were very satisfied. The timing worked out well for the Onsen too, so we hardly ran into other guests and could take our time in both the indoor bath and the open-air bath. Staying during the autumn foliage season may be difficult due to crowds, but my mother said she definitely wants me to bring her again.

Once again, I was able to relax and enjoy the Onsen. Dinner was served early, which gave us plenty of time to unwind in the evening, and we really enjoyed it—thank you. The staff were warm and friendly, which made us feel at ease. We would love to stay again when we have the chance, and we are considering booking for others in our group as well. This was my first stay. The atmosphere was warm and homey, and all the staff welcomed us with bright smiles. The Facility is a bit old, but it is well maintained and spotlessly clean. The meals featured locally sourced ingredients, were beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The Onsen warmed me through to the core and left my skin glowing. I soaked in it many times. I felt refreshed for the first time in a while. I’m happy to have found an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again. Thank you very much.

We stayed on August 1–2, 2026! The Room (depending on the Plan, I assume) felt like it could have been a bit deeper and wider, but it matched the photos online. This was our first stay at Taoya as a family of four, including a second-year university student and a second-year high school student. We loved the all-inclusive free drinks (including alcohol) throughout our stay, plus the welcome dessert (the mini Mont Blanc was freshly piped on the spot). At dinner buffet, there were shake salads, freshly grilled and carved steak, and each table had a small burner for mini hot pots. There were also pasta and pizza, and even late-night snacks included in the Plan—everything was excellent in both taste and portion size. Breakfast was also buffet-style with build-your-own rice bowls, grilled fish using the tabletop burner, and freshly baked mini apple pies brought around to each table (they’re seriously piping hot, so be careful when eating). Our whole family was very satisfied. At dinner one night while we were taking a selfie with an outstretched arm, a staff member kindly offered to take our photo—an extra touch that made us even happier. The location was great too: easy access to Momiji-dani Suspension Bridge and the Nasu Highlands area, and Nikko is just over an hour away by expressway. Since it’s in the mountains we were worried about insects, but they didn’t bother us at all—we didn’t even encounter any during an evening walk (to the nearest suspension bridge), at the open-air bath on the 4th floor, or in our Room. The only insect we really noticed was dragonflies flying around the courtyard; little kids seemed to enjoy having them land on their fingers. Personally, I especially liked the courtyard bonfire! Due to bad weather, I arrived much later than my planned check-in time, but they accommodated me. My vehicle was about the size of a microbus, but they still allowed me to park, which was a huge help. Another place refused because of my vehicle size, so I really appreciated how willingly this Accommodation handled it. For a family of four, the 10-tatami Room was very spacious, and the kids were thrilled. The Facility is a bit old... The windows are thin and you can hear outside noise easily; the sound of rain echoes pleasantly in the Room. The shower pressure in the bath was a slight downside... Other than that, I have no complaints. An Accommodation that lets you park a vehicle of my size is invaluable, so I’ll stay here again next time. Thank you very much.

Since we started traveling as a family, we often visit Kinugawa and Nasu, and we always stay at Hotel New Shiobara. This time was also Hotel New Shiobara. Since becoming premium, it has become even more comfortable. Above all, our children really love this hotel. The buffet meals, the baths, and the overall atmosphere inside the Hotel are all excellent. The newly opened lounge is also great. We plan to stay here again whenever we visit Nasu. The cat was very cute. The Onsen’s open-air bath felt cold when I first got in. The indoor bath was also quite lukewarm, but it felt like I could stay in forever. I bathed three times during my stay, and it was very relaxing. Many of the staff were from overseas, but I could feel their thoughtful hospitality. It had a homey atmosphere. As a solo traveler, it was great to be able to relax quietly. I’d like to stay again.

Absolutely amazing. In addition to dinner and breakfast, you can also enjoy alcohol (beer and more) as well as steamed meat buns and traditional sweets at check-in and during late-night snacks. Dinner features grilled eel, sushi, crab, shabu-shabu, and more, and breakfast also offers a wide variety—everything was extremely satisfying. The Hotel has karaoke, table tennis, darts, foosball-style soccer games, and more, so we had a great time. The only minor issue was that the Room air conditioning felt a bit outdated; otherwise the value is almost too good to share. We were very satisfied overall, including the Onsen.

I stayed here on a recommendation from an acquaintance. The room was spacious, the bed was wonderfully plush, and the in-room hot spring bath was especially amazing. The amenities were also well stocked. Dinner—traditional Japanese cuisine—was very delicious, and we enjoyed it with drinks. It was our first all-inclusive stay, and the kids were thrilled with the Häagen-Dazs. If I had to mention something: My husband was disappointed that there weren’t many options for in-room drinks and snacks. For me, it was the toothbrush—the bristles didn’t feel like they cleaned well. Next time I’ll bring my own from home.

I always stay at Itoen Hotel when I travel. The Room was spacious, a blend of Japanese and Western style, and very clean. Since the Hotel isn’t very large, it was easy to get around with short walks to the dining area and the large public bath. The all-you-can-drink buffet at this price was very satisfying—there were two types of sake and three types of shochu, which was perfect for alcohol lovers. The large public bath was spacious and relaxing. As always, it was an Accommodation with excellent value that never disappoints. Thank you very much.

I stayed here on a motorcycle touring trip. Since the parking is underground, my bike wasn’t exposed to night dew, which made the next morning easy. The room was also very clean and well maintained. The foreign staff were well trained, understood Japanese, and were kind. There was a wide variety of dishes, and I ended up eating too much. I was able to relax and refresh in the hot springs, so I’d like to stay here again.

We stayed here with a couple of friends on the middle day of a three-day holiday weekend. The exterior felt a bit old, but the Room had been well renovated and was clean. In addition to the large public bath, there are six private open-air baths that can be locked, including one beside the gorge.\nWe were able to forget about everyday life and truly enjoy our time as a couple.\nAlthough it is a large Ryokan, it feels like a family-run place and has a warm atmosphere. We plan to stay again.

This was my first stay.\nI was satisfied with the dog run and the meals, but since the pet-friendly room was a Japanese-style room, it was especially difficult and disappointing that dogs were not allowed on the futons.\nAlso, I was disappointed that dust in the toilet area was noticeable.\nThe all-you-can-drink beverages were appreciated.

A nostalgic Showa-style Ryokan where you take off your shoes at the entrance! I think just changing the carpet here would dramatically change the overall atmosphere. The bath is a natural hot spring with a high content of metasilicic acid, so your skin becomes smooth and moist even without soap - wonderful! The tsumire unkai nabe for dinner was exquisite, and I was completely absorbed in it. The tamago kake gohan and soba mizu kake for breakfast were also delicious, and I was impressed by the abundant use of local ingredients, including vegetables. Thank you very much.
