With the spirit of “Raisha Nyoki” (welcoming you as if returning home) and a deep respect for tradition, we have long hosted Bakumatsu-era patriots, members of the Imperial family, writers and artists, as well as guests from overseas. Our cuisine features kaiseki that reflects Kyoto’s annual events and the changing seasons. We would be delighted if you would spend a peaceful time at our historic Ryokan, embracing a culture that cherishes fine craftsmanship and harmony with nature.
A renowned Ryokan, Sumiya Ryokan, featuring a sukiya-style architecture, offers an exceptional sense of tranquility that feels far removed from the bustling streets of Kyoto. The kaiseki dinner is exquisite, and on the evenings of the 7th and 17th each month, tea ceremonies are held in the tea room for your enjoyment.
Yoshikawa was established as a culinary Ryokan after World War II, located near the Kyoto Imperial Palace in the heart of Rakuchu. The garden, known as "Taikyoen," is said to have been designed by Enshu Kobori and retains some features from the Edo period. The Sukiya-style building, once a residence of a wealthy merchant, offers an atmosphere of tranquility and charm that feels far removed from the bustling city. We hope you will enjoy your stay at our culinary Ryokan, where you can relax and feel at home.
TRADITION Kyoto is a city known as "a continuation of tradition and innovation." Established in 1873, Kanamean Nishitomiya cherishes this spirit, constantly evolving and discovering newness within tradition. CREATION Kanamean Nishitomiya is a beautiful Property designed in the sukiya-zukuri style, reflecting Kyoto's tea ceremony culture. It offers a blend of Kyoto's cultural essence with modern sensibilities. This harmony is also evident in the cuisine, featuring kaiseki meals that highlight seasonal ingredients and the six-seat counter-style kappo dining experience at "Kaname." INNOVATION As the only member of Relais & Châteaux in Kyoto, we take pride in providing heartfelt hospitality that is possible with just eight rooms. We strive to create a Property that delights guests from Japan and around the world.
