The Yumoto Saito Ryokan, with a history of 284 years, is a charming property blending the Shirahone Onsen and the traditional ambiance of Shinshu. The onsen, sourced from its own spring since the Kamakura period, is milky white and is said to be effective for gastrointestinal ailments. All 53 guest rooms are named after notable novelists and poets, offering a serene space for relaxation. “Sawando” means “a place where rivers meet.” In December 1998, Onsen water was brought to this area—long used as a gateway to Kamikochi—and Sawando Onsen was born.
