A Ryokan with its own natural Onsen source. The unique milky-white Onsen of Zao is strongly acidic with numerous benefits, and the sulfur aroma delights Onsen enthusiasts. With abundant water flow, it is, of course, 100% sourced directly. As the name suggests, enjoy the Onsen with all "five senses."
Pension Woodchuck is located in Zao Town, Miyagi Prefecture, at an altitude of 400 meters, at the foot of the Zao mountain range, nestled in a forest of round acorn-bearing sawtooth oaks. In summer, rhinoceros beetles and fireflies visit the area. Nearby flows the Sumikawa River, home to "yamame" and "iwana" fish, nourished by the snowmelt from Zao. This Property is surrounded by such natural beauty. To accommodate wheelchair users, the building has been designed with minimal steps, and a small bridge has been added at the entrance. It is approximately 300 kilometers from Tokyo, about 60 minutes to Sendai, and located at the entrance to the Zao Echo Line, which connects Miyagi and Yamagata Prefectures.
This property boasts stunning views of Zao, abundant onsen, and cuisine featuring seasonal ingredients. The open spaces and seasonal Japanese gardens provide a soothing atmosphere. Relax in authentic Japanese-style rooms with the fragrance of Igusa grass. Additionally, enjoy a Japanese Kaiseki meal featuring local and seasonal flavors, such as local Hachisu, Zao pork ceramic plate grill, and domestic beef sukiyaki, at counter seats by the window overlooking the Zao mountain range.
Lovely Stays around the Onsen Area

The calm, traditional Japanese-style tatami rooms are ideal for groups and families and come equipped with a humidifying air purifier. The Onsen uses 100% natural spring water with no added water or heating, offering benefits for beautiful skin and weight management, while the large public bath and open-air bath overlook Zao’s magnificent natural scenery.
