The floors throughout the Ryokan were comfortable to walk on barefoot, making it feel like home. I completely understood why rolling suitcases are not allowed. I could really appreciate the owner’s attention to detail, and I thought it was wonderful. The location was excellent, and the meals were delicious.

A beautiful garden that reflects the seasons—so captivating you could gaze at it forever. Elegant summer décor that lets you fully experience Kyoto’s traditional culture. Hanging scrolls, ikebana, and a beautifully arranged Room down to every detail. The head chef, attendants, the young proprietress, and the proprietress herself offer warm, attentive hospitality with genuine grace. Thinking that all of this beauty is an expression of love for each guest fills me with freshness and gratitude. At Kikkawa, you can feel the refined spirit of Kyoto—an appreciation for making everyday life beautiful and joyful. It began as an Accommodation I hoped to stay at at least once in my life; before I knew it, this was my 11th visit. A superb culinary Ryokan I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who truly loves Kyoto.

This was my first stay, and the Facility was very clean. The staff were also wonderfully welcoming, and I had a great time. The Room was clean and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the lake right in front of us. It was also great to be able to watch various streaming videos on the large projector. I understand this can’t be helped in summer, but it was disappointing that there were so many insects on the outdoor terrace that we couldn’t really use it. The food was delicious as well, but I noticed that some drinks listed on the menu were sold out. It’s a small thing in itself, but details like this can give the impression that things aren’t being managed thoroughly. (In the end, though, it led me to try something new—so it worked out!)

This is my second stay. After my previous stay, I mentioned a small concern in a comment, and I received a prompt reply, which left a very positive impression and made me want to stay again. During this second visit, I was warmly asked at check-in if there was anything they could help with, which made me glad I came. I didn’t realize there was a Ryokan tucked away behind the central sightseeing area of Amanohashidate. Because it is set back, the grounds were quiet despite being in a tourist spot, and I could hear birdsong and the sound of the waves. The building has been renovated, and the Room amenities were up to date; the bath was also very clean. The Onsen in the large public bath isn’t big, but it was comfortable because I didn’t run into anyone, and it was nice to be able to enjoy coffee after bathing. The meals were generous enough to satisfy even someone with a big appetite like me, and everything tasted great. For breakfast, a chef came to our private dining room and cooked dashimaki right in front of us—it was a wonderful surprise. The Nepalese staff member explained the many ingredients in Japanese, and their service was polite and pleasant. I would love to stay again.

This was our first time staying here, and we were very well taken care of. From the warm welcome upon arrival, we were served tea and delicious sweets before being shown to our Room. The guest Room had a clean, modern Japanese style, and we were truly impressed by the wonderful view of the sea from anywhere in the Room—even from the bath. In addition, the Onsen bath had silky, slightly thick water that felt great and left our skin smooth; we enjoyed it many times and were completely satisfied. Both dinner and breakfast were more than enough in quantity, and every dish was delicious. We initially thought the dining area seating might be close together, but it wasn’t at all; we enjoyed chatting while listening to explanations about the dishes from the proprietress and staff. We had been looking for an Accommodation where we could simply relax, enjoy great food, and soak in good hot water—and this was a wonderful Accommodation where we could truly take our time. We’re happy to have found an Accommodation that makes us think, “We definitely want to come again in a different season.”
