Onomichi × Highly rated for dining at Hotel·Ryokan

My first trip to Onomichi. I chose Hansei, highly rated for its outstanding cuisine. The kaiseki meals made with seasonal Setouchi ingredients were exceptional—each dish carefully prepared, and while true to classic kaiseki, they also incorporated new ingredients in a way that was both impressive and delicious. Even the pickles were finely scored with hidden knife work, showing thoughtful consideration for the guest. I was amazed by the high level of quality. The special sea bream chazuke (with sesame sauce) at breakfast was also superb.

As wonderful as the food was, what moved me most was the attentiveness and care shown by all the staff. From check-in to check-out, their hospitality was excellent. One member of staff in charge of dining even quietly placed an extra dish beside a photo of a family member who could not join us at breakfast and dinner—an incredibly touching gesture.

The “Travel Memory Book” was something that staff had written for the first time, but it became a truly lovely keepsake—the carefully drawn illustration and message conveyed their warmth so clearly.

With such wonderful staff and delicious food, Hansei is a place I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

Since I arrived by train, the direct connection to the station was perfect. I could also see the Onomichi sea from the Room and had a wonderful time. The high ceiling made the Room feel more spacious than it actually was. The Room only had a shower, which was a downside, but overall it was a very good stay. I left relatively early the next day as well, and since it is directly connected to the Hotel, it was very convenient.

At my family’s request, we wanted to stay in Onomichi, so we asked in advance for a birthday cake for our child. It was a wonderful stay. Thank you very much. The cake had a gentle flavor, and the staff came to celebrate with us, creating a warm atmosphere. The view from the Room was amazing, and the meals featured local ingredients—we enjoyed plenty of fresh seafood. Although the weather was often rainy, they advised us on how to walk around the area while watching the weather and provided guidance on nearby stations, so we were able to visit most of the places we wanted to see.

Onomichi had been a dream destination for me. I looked for a place close to the station with a great view. I was able to leave my luggage before check-in and fully enjoy sightseeing in Onomichi. The covered shopping arcade was also nearby, so I enjoyed shopping as well. Breakfast was absolutely delicious, and above all, the staff member who served us was very kind and wonderful. It turned into a lovely trip.

We took a last summer-vacation memory trip with our little one to Miroku no Sato. Since it was a last-minute decision, we didn’t book an Accommodation and headed to Miroku no Sato before noon while enjoying the Shimanami Kaido. After fully enjoying summer at the pool by bus, we decided on Onomichi for our Accommodation because we wanted scenic views and ramen—Done. We found this Onomichi Royal Hotel through a search, and with this Plan we could use points, making it much cheaper than expected. We arrived at 6:30 in the twilight, and luckily we were able to park on the Hotel grounds—so relieved! The recently renovated interior was comfortable, and while the lobby is small, it’s clean and nice. There are self check-in machines, but the front desk staff will guide you. They were a bit blunt—but that’s part of the charm (lol). You leave your car key and receive a tag. Given Onomichi’s tight location, parking next to the hotel lobby involves moving cars around as needed, so we left it to them. There are two elevators; one is for banquets and an upper-floor lounge and skips guest Room floors. After a short wait, we headed up to our Room. The guest Room felt spacious like a deluxe type, with a sofa big enough for an adult to lie down on, a round table and large stool, luggage rack space, and a nicely sized smart TV. The toilet/bath is a compact unit type. Although it has been renovated overall, the toilet itself is older equipment; any yellowing in appearance wasn’t bothersome. (It’s just age-related—the cleanliness was absolutely fine!) Still, considering the balance of the Room overall… I wished for just a bit more. And then—the view I’d been hoping for…! I opened the curtains wide and looked right…and left. There’s some wall space between windows, but you get a wonderful view of the Onomichi Channel. Seeing the moonlight shimmering on the water along with the pier scenery—and even ferries heading to Mukaishima—was exactly “Onomichi,” and I was truly satisfied! Behind it is shopping streets as well; it’s about a 5-minute walk to get to the ropeway. It was an ideal location for sightseeing. I’m really glad we had this chance to stay here.

This is a spacious corner twin room with panoramic views of the Onomichi Channel and the area around the station. I also appreciated that the floor was not carpet but a well-cleaned wood floor. A lovely touch was the hassaku jelly in the refrigerator for each guest, complete with spoons, and chilled bottled water for everyone as well. The handmade cookies made in collaboration with a local social welfare corporation also left a great impression. These days, even branded city hotels often don’t provide complimentary water, so I truly appreciate this Hotel’s warm hospitality. It was also nice that Accommodation guests receive 10% off at the souvenir shop. Breakfast was excellent too—not only with locally sourced ingredients, but also soft-serve ice cream. From the moment I arrived at Onomichi Station, even the station staff were full of energy, and I could feel how the whole town supports one another and works together to keep things lively. Some shops have closed down, but the shopping street—where retro and modern coexist—is a must-see. Since it was a hot season, it was tough to walk for long periods and I couldn’t see everything I wanted to. I’d love to visit again in a cooler season and stay at the same Hotel at a more relaxed pace.

This was my second stay. Breakfast was a buffet of bread and salad, plus a choice of one main dish from three options, and it was delicious. Since the Accommodation is a renovated warehouse, the Room is a little on the dark side, but very clean. I would like to stay here again when I visit Onomichi. Thank you very much.

I stayed on a Saturday night over the weekend, and perhaps because it operates as a Business Hotel, the pricing felt very affordable. I stayed in a twin Room; it was reasonably spacious and very well cleaned. However, there was no safe in the Room, which was slightly inconvenient. There is no shared bath inside the Hotel, but we were informed that it partners with a nearby Onsen Facility. I used the in-room unit bath, though the drainage felt a bit slow. The anago hitsumabushi for dinner was excellent and truly enjoyable. With its reasonable Accommodation Fee, this Hotel is recommended for sightseeing in Onomichi and enjoying Hiroshima’s famous conger eel.

It’s within walking distance from the station, but it’s a bit far. However, there are restaurants and convenience stores nearby, so it wasn’t a problem. The front desk staff were kind and friendly. They also accommodated a change to the breakfast time from what I had told them in advance, and I was very satisfied with the breakfast.

With its charming interior, it felt less like a Hotel and more like staying at a friend’s home. It seemed there were two other groups staying as well, but it was so quiet that it almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. The all-you-can-eat soft-serve ice cream was delicious—I had it twice, once late at night and again in the morning! It’s a bit far from the station, but the route goes through a shopping street, so the walk is never boring. I’d love to stay here again if I have the chance.

Despite its convenient location near the station, this Hotel offers a spacious, dedicated surface parking lot with plenty of spaces. Parking is managed simply by providing your vehicle number at check-in, so you can come and go freely. For the reasonable Accommodation Fee, the breakfast buffet is of good quality and may include local specialties such as Kaiju Lemon minced cutlet, octopus rice, and gansu (availability varies by day). However, the central air-conditioning cooling performance is only moderate, so it may feel a bit warm for guests who prefer cooler rooms.

This is a nice Hotel with a spacious, clean parking lot.

I’ve been staying here since the Hotel first opened, and the location, cleanliness, and value for money are all excellent. There’s a free drink corner in the lobby, which is also a nice place to relax. Even though it’s a capsule Hotel, the walls aren’t as thin as you might expect. This time I did another 3-night Multiple Night Stay, and it made for a very fulfilling trip to Onomichi.

A space where you can feel art and culture—a stay that feels like purchasing an experience. The hospitality is just right, and there were no complaints as an accommodation. Above all, the meals were delicious and truly impressive. Among the accommodations I've stayed at recently, the food here left the strongest impression. Onomichi has many local specialties, but I highly recommend trying both dinner and breakfast while you're here.

We arrived by rental car. At first, even with Google Maps we couldn’t find the Accommodation’s parking area and were a bit confused, but when we called the Accommodation, a staff member came to pick us up right away. Everyone on the staff was kind and pleasant. The meals were also delicious. No matter the time of day, the view from our Room of Onomichi’s townscape and Senkoji Temple was truly beautiful. We did notice some noise from footsteps in the hallway and doors opening and closing, but we were still able to rest well. We would love to stay here again next time we visit Onomichi. This was my first stay in three years. I originally had a Reservation at another Hotel, but my stay here three years ago was so wonderful that I decided to change it to this Accommodation. The Room was stylish and spotless, and it was pure bliss to sip coffee while gazing out the window at the Onomichi Channel. The front desk staff were also very kind. I would love to stay again.

I had a very comfortable stay.

The stairs were probably tough for Grandma, but we all had a lively and enjoyable stay. The weather stayed sunny the whole time, so we were able to fully enjoy our post–Golden Week trip to Onomichi. It’s also close to the station, with a diner and bakery open from the morning nearby. Since we wanted plenty of ice for evening drinks, we bought some at AEON about a 15–20 minute walk away. Requests: Use of the parking lot before check-in. Please reduce the room fragrance slightly (I liked it, but our child didn’t). The triangular sink strainer for food waste is unstable. The garbage sorting rules were unclear. The frying pan sticks/burns easily. It would be helpful to have a basket to carry items when eating on the terrace. What we liked: Very clean—everything was spotless. There were plenty of towels, and hand towels were already set up in the restroom. Aluminum foil had been placed in the toaster for us as well. Next time, I’d love to ride the Shimanami Kaido by rental bicycle or rental bike. Everyone said they’d like to come again too, so when we have time, we’ll definitely stay again. Thank you very much.
