The history of Ryokan Chōraku-en Yunosuke at Tamatsukuri Onsen is the history of Tamatsukuri Onsen itself. Tamatsukuri Onsen was established in the early Nara period by our ancestor, Hasegawa Toshikata. During the Edo period, the Hasegawa family was entrusted with the management of Tamatsukuri Onsen by the Matsue domain, holding the official title of "Yunosuke." In the first year of the Meiji era, they began operating a ryokan under the name Chōraku-en. For 140 years, they have had the honor of hosting numerous literary figures, dignitaries, and occasionally members of the imperial family.

Tamatsukuri Onsen, with a history of 1,300 years, is counted among Japan's oldest Onsen. Known as "Himegami no Yu" (Bath of the Goddess) for its skin-beautifying properties, it is a renowned hot spring especially loved by women. At our facility, you can enjoy the Onsen in various ways, including a large public bath equipped with an open-air bath and sauna, as well as five foot baths for a more casual experience. For dining, we offer a kaiseki meal featuring an abundance of local ingredients such as Shimane-grown Koshihikari rice, Shijimi clams from Lake Shinji, Shimane Wagyu beef, and Nodoguro fish. Relax in our lounge overlooking a traditional Japanese garden, where you can also enjoy complimentary coffee and tea. Yumoto Tamai-kan is a charming retro-style Property with a traditional Japanese wooden structure, featuring three floors. The Onsen, sourced from 31 meters underground in the garden, is nearly colorless and transparent, offering therapeutic benefits for rheumatism, gynecological issues, neuralgia, gastrointestinal problems, and skin conditions. The pure Japanese-style Room includes an 8-tatami main area and a 4.5-tatami adjoining space with its own open-air Onsen bath fed directly from the source, allowing you to enjoy a private bathing experience.
