My family and I stayed here the day before our Kamikochi sightseeing trip. The young proprietress was very friendly and easy to talk to, and her unpretentious, thoughtful hospitality was truly comfortable. The open-air bath in our Room felt amazing—I could have stayed in it forever. Dinner featuring Hida beef had so many dishes that we wondered if we could finish them all, but everything was delicious and we all ate every last bite. The beef tataki we received as a gift from the Accommodation was also outstanding! They also kindly helped us plan for the next day’s Kamikochi sightseeing, making our stay completely satisfying. We would definitely like to stay here again on our next trip to Kamikochi!

Everyone was extremely kind and attentive. The Room was clean, and the Onsen temperature was just right, so we were very satisfied. There was a wide variety of dishes; in particular, the tempura made with mountain vegetables looked great and tasted wonderful, and the grilled sweetfish was plump and delicious. It is a quiet Onsen town, but we were able to relax and were very satisfied.

This was my fourth stay. This place is exceptionally well-equipped for dogs, and everything is comfortable. When it comes to Facilities where you can stay with your dog, owners often have to compromise on something, but here both the meals and the baths were completely satisfying. The Hotel staff are kind, and it’s simply a very welcoming place. We stayed during the Obon holiday period, but it was wonderfully cool, and our dog—who had been worn out by the summer heat of over 35°C every day—was full of energy again. It’s truly an ideal summer retreat.

This was my first stay. The Room was spacious and very comfortable. For dinner, I enjoyed Hida beef—the meat was delicious, and the fat had a pleasantly sweet flavor. The breakfast curry also contained plenty of Hida beef and was very tasty. Overall, it was a very satisfying Hotel.

Although the weather was fine down below, up in the mountains it was foggy and rainy, so unfortunately even after taking the ropeway it was a completely white world. The open-air bath at the mountain Hotel was great. I was especially lucky to see Mt. Yari appear above the clouds from the mixed-gender open-air bath where you wear a bathing garment. Next time, I plan to come in October to observe the starry sky.

I found this Accommodation while looking for a nearby place to stay on our way to Kamikochi. It’s a wonderful Accommodation in a quiet mountain village, and everything—the atmosphere, the meals, and the Onsen—was extremely satisfying. We visited with children, and I really appreciate their thoughtfulness, such as preparing the largest Room for us. Although it was near the end of the season, we were able to join the free firefly viewing event and saw about 10 fireflies—it was truly moving!! The Hida beef in the meal was tender, sweet, and absolutely delicious! The Onsen includes both simple spring water and mildly alkaline water; neither has a strong scent or feel, so it’s very refreshing. Some people might find it just slightly hot. The Room was spacious and relaxing, and even in late July it was cool at night—we could turn off the air conditioner, open the windows, and sleep comfortably. We will definitely be back!! *The only thing I noticed: I’m not sure whether it’s due to prefectural policy or the Accommodation’s policy, but there were many foreign staff members (Southeast Asian) working in the dining area. They were friendly and very kind so it didn’t bother us at all, but some guests may feel differently. If you’re concerned, you may want to contact them in advance.*

This is the best Accommodation in the Okuhida Onsen area. The value for money is outstanding. We really enjoyed the open-air bath in the Room, the private open-air bath, and the lounge area after bathing. This was our second stay.

This was my first time staying at a pension. The bath has free-flowing hot spring water and can be reserved for private use, so I was able to relax and enjoy it. It felt very open, and the water was wonderfully soothing. There was more than enough food, but it was delicious and I finished everything. It rained on the day of our stay, but it cleared up in the morning, and breakfast with the beautiful view tasted even better.

This is an Accommodation I had long wanted to stay at, and I was able to relax in this quiet place with only five groups. The Room had both a bedroom and a Japanese-style room, and it didn’t feel cramped at all. There are four Onsen baths with open-air tubs, and you can check availability on a tablet, so we were able to use them without waiting. The water temperature was just right, and it stayed warm without getting chilled afterward. The main building’s bath is also available at night. Dinner, which I had been looking forward to, was just as delicious as expected: Hida beef grilled over charcoal right in front of us, and salt-grilled char so tender you can even eat the bones. Each dish—such as the apple-based sauce—made me feel happy every time it arrived. Breakfast was also wonderful, with local Hida flavors such as hoba miso grilled over charcoal and dried sweetfish. The late-night pressed char sushi and yogurt were delicious too, leaving both my mind and body refreshed. I accidentally left something behind in the Room, but they contacted me right away, which was very helpful. It’s an Accommodation that’s hard to get a Reservation for, but I’d love to visit again next time. Thank you for everything.

I stayed with my husband and 4-year-old son as a family of three in August. The exterior feels a bit old, but the room and the hotel were clean, and the food, service, and onsen were excellent. We had a very comfortable stay with our son. This is definitely a hotel we want to stay at again!

The baths and the meals were wonderful. I used the baths four times, and my skin felt so smooth. The portion sizes were just right, and both the Hida beef and the fish were tender and delicious. I would definitely love to stay again. When I visit Hirayu next time, I look forward to seeing you again.

First of all, thank you to the front desk staff for your courteous service from check-in onward. I carefully checked the weather forecast and decided there would be no snowfall, then hurriedly planned a trip to my beloved Hida Takayama and Okuhida. After leisurely enjoying the old town streets, I headed to the Accommodation and arrived around dusk—only to see white flakes falling from the sky. In the end, it worked out perfectly. The early-morning Onsen was a stunning open-air bath with snow viewing and a softly lit winter landscape. With no wind, I was able to enjoy a quiet moment all to myself and Clear away my daily fatigue and stress. The indoor bath also had a lovely interior and atmosphere, was beautifully cleaned, and I enjoyed a full hour—completely satisfied. The Yakult drink service in the post-bath lounge was another thoughtful touch; I ended up having three. Breakfast afterward was outstanding for someone who loves Japanese food—I had three large bowls of rice first thing in the morning. Hoba miso, “tsukemono steak,” kombu rolls, simmered ganmodoki, steamed vegetables, miso soup with fried tofu… And as if that weren’t enough, I even finished off some special curry rice. Now I’m slightly nervous about my next regular checkup with my hemoglobin A1c likely going up… On the way home I did some light exercise by strolling around Takayama again: Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine, the Takayama Festival Float Exhibition Hall, Hiroshige’s baumkuchen shop, a cat café, and more. This is an Accommodation I’d like to visit again anytime in any season—and one I truly hope to stay at again. Next time I’d love to try dinner as well. When I noticed the interior (tatami flooring?), it felt familiar—then I realized it’s part of the same group as Hida Hanazato no Yu Takayama Ouan. Once again, it struck me as a wonderful concept: clean and beautifully Japanese in style. Thank you very much.

This was my first stay, and I was completely satisfied with the Accommodation. The meals, Onsen, and service were all excellent. Although the price is a bit high, it was well worth it. I was also able to relax and unwind in the open-air bath, which was almost like having it to myself.

Stayed for a family birthday trip. The accommodation had a charming, retro atmosphere that felt like stepping back into the Showa era. There were various rest areas throughout the accommodation, perfect for relaxing with a book or simply unwinding. The retro-style chairs were very comfortable, and even the scent carried an old-fashioned charm reminiscent of the past. Some rooms were located quite far from the bath area, making it feel like navigating a maze at times. In winter, the hallways seemed like they could get very cold. A few minutes' walk from the accommodation was an exclusive bathing area for guests featuring five private semi-open-air baths and one non-private semi-open-air bath. It might be challenging to visit in bad weather, but we went both in the evening and morning to enjoy 100% natural hot spring water that kept our bodies warm—truly excellent Onsen water! However, some parts of the bathtubs and floors had sharp textures due to mineral deposits from the Onsen water, so caution was needed (laughs). The large open-air baths offered three temperature options: cold-feeling lukewarm, very lukewarm, and very hot—but unfortunately none at just-right temperatures. Dinner by an irori hearth was delicious; however, it could get smoky so clothing care is advised. All staff members were warm and provided excellent hospitality throughout our stay!

We were able to stay at a great price, and the meals were incredibly delicious and very generous—we really had to work hard to finish them. There was Hida beef served both teppanyaki-style and as sukiyaki, and the vegetables were fresh and very tasty. We also reserved the bath for private use, and we were moved by the breathtaking star-filled sky. There was no air conditioning, but it wasn’t a problem. The Room was old, but we knew it came with that condition, so it was fine. Our whole family was so satisfied that we all said we’d like to stay again. With souvenirs included as well, I think it’s a truly wonderful Ryokan.

I visited with a friend for our once-a-year, slightly indulgent girls’ trip. The Accommodation seems to be located right in front of a local bus stop, but part of the national highway on the bus route was closed due to a landslide and buses were taking a detour, meaning extra travel time from both Takayama and Matsumoto. So my friend drove from Nagoya instead. We took a short break at the Hirugano Kogen Service Area to enjoy the magnificent scenery, and arrived comfortably in just under three hours with no traffic. There were spots with some snow remaining along the sides of the road, but there was no snow on the road itself. Even so, it gets cold in the mornings and evenings, so winter tires are recommended for peace of mind in case of icy conditions. The building is kept impeccably clean and is wrapped in a pleasant quietness and the lovely aroma of charcoal from the irori hearth—while our Room had no odor at all. We were welcomed into a spacious Room with delicious homemade pound cake as part of their hospitality, and as we chatted comfortably, time flew by. The cuisine was truly outstanding—bringing out the full flavor of each ingredient while presenting combinations and plating unlike anything I’d experienced before, far exceeding its reputation and my expectations. As richer foods have started to leave me feeling heavy or unwell the next day over recent years, I especially appreciated how refined every dish was; it felt like food I could happily enjoy even in my 80s without any heaviness. The chef’s and staff’s genuine desire for guests to enjoy themselves came through clearly. Perhaps because of the high altitude, alcohol seemed to hit more quickly—and since I also wanted to bathe—I unfortunately didn’t get around to trying the local craft beer or sake provided in our Room. Still, stepping outside after the sauna into crisp mountain air with grand peaks right before us felt incredible. The private hot Onsen bath attached to our Room—hotter than expected—with jazz at night and birdsong in the morning was pure luxury: an unbelievably relaxing stay beyond what I could imagine. I’d love to return to experience another season’s cuisine as well—I’ve become a true fan. Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality.

We stayed here the night before our hike. We thought it might be a bit of a splurge, but the Shuttle Service, luxurious meals, open-air bath, and fluffy bedding made for a wonderful night’s sleep. We were able to set off comfortably and were very satisfied. However, since there were six of us, it was inconvenient to make the Reservation in three separate bookings.

This is a truly wonderful Accommodation. It is decorated with many artistic handmade pieces that blend seamlessly with the furnishings, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The four indoor baths are set up so you can tell whether each one is “Available” or “In Use,” and they were never all occupied, so we could bathe freely. Two baths are sized for 1–2 people, and the other two are a bit larger with great views. The water feels fantastic. There is also an outdoor bath that you lock from the outside before entering. This open-air bath is simply excellent. You can spend unhurried time surrounded by nature, with plenty of mineral deposits in the water as well. The short walk to get there is lovely too, and various wildflowers welcome you along the way. The owner was very kind, and the hand-dripped coffee was delicious. It’s an Accommodation that makes you want to come back (and feels like coming home).

I visited for a stay after skiing at Hoonoki-daira Ski Resort. The open-air cypress bath made by the owner's father was very pleasant, and I enjoyed it twice, at night and in the morning. I really liked the temperature of the water, its size, and the view. The food was also very delicious, and we ended up drinking too much sake, but both my wife and I were very satisfied. With skiing, onsen, and delicious meals, this is a property I definitely want to visit again.
