The accommodation in Otaru, known for its private onsen with beautifying waters and as a famous cherry blossom spot.

Our 8,000-tsubo garden, begun by my great-grandfather in the early Showa era, is surrounded by trees over 100 years old and is a celebrated spot in Otaru, with 200 cherry trees in full bloom in early May. From late May through June, wisteria trellises and azaleas follow, and in summer you can enjoy viburnum snowballs, hydrangeas, and carefully tended roses. I especially love the autumn foliage in late October, and the deep winter snow that transforms everything into a pure white landscape is equally refreshing for the soul.

An Onsen Accommodation with only 7 groups per day, featuring all rooms with private open-air hot spring baths.

Facing the Sea of Japan, Tango–Kumihama is a scenic area where many beautiful landscapes remain. A legend has been passed down here. In the Kamakura period, the monk Ippen traveled across The whole country to save people, distributing nembutsu talismans and performing dancing nembutsu. After finishing his preaching in Kyoto and heading toward San’in, he was chanting the nembutsu in Kumihama when clouds suddenly gathered and a blue dragon appeared over the sea. Dragon worship has long been practiced in this region, and it is said that the blue dragon revealed itself before Ippen to form a bond with the nembutsu. Even today, the Sea of Japan as seen from Kumihama retains an air of mystery. Like Ippen once did, you can be embraced by this scenery and find rest here.

Since then, many guests—including members of the Imperial Family—have continued to visit. What captivates visitors is our rare, highly beneficial spring water found only here: it contains all three celebrated skin-beautifying types—sulfur springs, sulfate springs, and bicarbonate springs. Another reason is our abundant flow rate of 200 liters per minute. We adhere strictly to “100% free-flowing from the source,” with no added water, no heating adjustments, and no circulation. Moreover, the history of Hakone Ashinoyu is said to date back to the Nara period—more than 1,200 years ago.Now come and savor Hakone’s finest famed hot spring—a place cherished through time—and enjoy being part of its continuing story into the future.
