In the first year of Ansei (1854), the founder of our Property, Iwakuniya Sobei, received permission from the magistrate's office to develop the area. He built a bridge over the Momiji River in front of the Property and established a teahouse by the stream as a resting place for travelers. This marked the beginning of "Miyajima no Yado Iwaso." Later, the bustling popularity continued, and the Property officially opened as a Ryokan in the early Meiji period. The main entrance building dates back to 1892 (Meiji 25), and the lobby was constructed during renovations in 1981 (Showa 56). Today, we draw natural Onsen, a rarity on the island, and offer accommodations in the main building, new building, and detached rooms. As a Ryokan nestled within a national park, we strive daily to ensure our guests can relax and enjoy their stay.

Yanagawa is a beautiful water city where 930 km of canals, unchanged since the Edo period, spread throughout the town and boats glide by. The Tachibana family has long stood alongside Yanagawa’s history. During the Edo period, Ohana began as a villa of the Tachibana family, lords of the Yanagawa Domain. From the Western-style building constructed in the Meiji era as an authentic guesthouse, you pass through to a grand 100-tatami hall—beyond which lies a magnificent garden composed solely of pine trees. With the renewal of our accommodation wing, we are being reborn as a space where you can more fully enjoy the appeal of cultural properties still preserved by descendants of this former daimyo family. Making use of our distinction as Japan’s only nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty where you can stay—a Ryokan with dining—we offer activities and moments that let you feel the history and stories of the daimyo family (the Tachibana family).

A secluded adults-only Accommodation where you can enjoy a quiet stay, blending the charm of an early Showa-era three-story wooden building with a modern touch. Ideally located right in front of the entrance is the sightseeing boat pier that crosses Amanohashidate, one of Japan’s Three Scenic Views. From each uniquely styled guest room, take in the ever-changing scenery of Amanohashidate and watch the boats come and go, then unwind in the large public bath—renovated in November 2023—and enjoy the skin-friendly alkaline simple Onsen waters of Nariai Kannon Onsen. "Island Property Ganjyuya" is an exclusive accommodation with only two cottages on the premises, limited to two groups. The Okinawan-style red-tiled Property buildings are perfect for families or large groups, with one accommodating up to 4 guests and the other up to 6 guests. Inside, you'll find a Ryukyu tatami living Room, a bedroom, a sofa Room (only in Fuya), a bath and toilet, as well as a private garden with a table and chairs. All are designed with a modern Japanese aesthetic, ensuring a comfortable stay. The Property is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, washing machine, and dryer. One highlight not to be missed is the stone-built open-air bath in the garden! The 6-person cottage (Fuya) features a round open-air bath, while the 4-person cottage (Tora) has a square one, allowing guests to enjoy a "star-viewing bath" no matter which Room they choose. Additionally, bicycles are available for guests to use free of charge. *Child seats and children's bicycles are also available. Furthermore, from the adjacent "Parlor Ganjyuya," you can order takeout, which will be delivered directly to your Room. The signature parfaits feature Blue Seal ice cream, with options like the "Tropical Parfait" packed with fresh mango, or the "Okinawan Sundae" offering unique local flavors such as ube, beni-imo, and salted chinsuko. These are especially popular. Other offerings include shaved ice, drinks, smoothies, and Orion draft beer. The greatest appeal of staying on Taketomi Island is experiencing the atmosphere and ambiance of the village and sea after the day-trippers have left. In the evening, you can enjoy the beach almost entirely to yourself. "Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto" is a Ryokan with a history dating back to the early Edo period, now run by its 20th generation. It is the closest accommodation to Itsukushima Shrine and the oldest accommodation in Miyajima, welcoming numerous guests over the years.In 1974, it opened a new annex on an elevated location behind the shrine, moving from its original site along Ari-no-Ura beach. The Ryokan has since been dedicated to providing hospitality to visitors of Itsukushima Shrine and guests from across Japan and overseas, allowing them to enjoy Miyajima's natural beauty and rich history. The traditional Japanese Sukiya-style rooms and Setouchi Kaiseki cuisine are among its highlights.
