On my trip to Yamanashi, I stayed for two nights because I was attracted by the idea of enjoying an Onsen in the Room. The large public bath was enjoyable, with differences in the hot spring water between each tub. However, as others have pointed out, it was disappointing that it cannot be used in the morning. That said, I was very satisfied because I could use the Onsen in my Room at any time. The Facility has a bit of a Showa-era feel, but it wasn’t inconvenient. One downside was that the air conditioner in the Room didn’t work very well, which felt slightly inconvenient during the daytime.

This was my first stay, and the front desk staff were very helpful. I also received a sheet with a map of nearby restaurants. The large public bath was great as well. If you leave your key, etc. at the 5th-floor public bath reception by 21:30, you can enter. It seems to close at 22:00. There were various baths, and the open-air bath on the 6th floor (rooftop) was excellent! However, since the shampoo and conditioner are commercial-grade amenities, the quality isn’t very good, so bringing your own shampoo is recommended. The Room was a single, but I felt the lighting wasn’t bright enough. Otherwise, it’s typical business-hotel quality. Because the open-air bath was so good, I rated it highly.

I was looking for a private-feeling Onsen Accommodation that I could visit on a day trip during Golden Week, and it exceeded my expectations with its luxurious atmosphere—I had a wonderful time. Since I was there, I also stayed for dinner, and it was surprisingly outstanding. I’d love to visit again.

The location, Room, bath, and meals were all outstanding. The meals in particular were excellent. This is an Accommodation I would definitely like to stay at again when traveling to the Kushiro area.

It was an Accommodation with a nostalgic Showa-era feel. However, the simple flush toilet had a washlet, and some areas have been renovated in a modern style. The friendly staff were not overly formal, but they were very kind and helpful. The meals were delicious and reasonably priced, and drinks were inexpensive as well. Parking was free for guests. Early-morning departures are possible, so this Accommodation is recommended for an overnight stay before heading to Kamikochi.

I’ve stayed here many times. The staff always greet me with “Welcome back!” which makes it incredibly comfortable. Above all, the Onsen is outstanding. This time, one of the four private family baths was set to a lukewarm temperature, which was perfect for soaking longer even during this extreme heat! If possible, I’d be happy if you could make two of them like that. The food is delicious, the staff are very friendly, and the Onsen is wonderful—this is my absolute favorite Ryokan!

The meals were full of surprises. The seafood selection was outstanding and incredibly delicious. Breakfast was particularly memorable as it included sushi, which was a first for me. It featured luxurious items like fatty tuna, sea urchin, scallops, and angel shrimp—exceptional for a morning meal. The simmered tuna head was also delightful. The baths were all private with no time limits, allowing us to fully enjoy the Onsen experience. This is an Onsen accommodation worth revisiting!

The last time I visited Matsurube was right after the 2008 Iwate–Miyagi Nairiku Earthquake, which triggered a massive landslide and caused the collapse of the Matsurube Ohashi Bridge. This time, it was my first return in 20 years. While traces of the past remain, it has been reborn as a small yet elegant Accommodation. It takes only about 10–20 seconds on foot from the Room to the large public bath. With just seven guest rooms in total, once day-use bathers leave in the evening, the large public bath feels almost like a private bath reserved just for you—an incredibly luxurious setup. Passing through a lovely drink bar, we head to the restaurant. It is described as “French cuisine,” but even after looking over the menu, I couldn’t quite imagine what each dish would be like. When I think of French food, classics such as foie gras, truffles, and rich butter sauces come to mind—delicious, but sometimes heavy. So what kind of French cuisine would this be? I had high expectations. But what was served far exceeded them. Each plate features two or more main ingredients—and both are ingredients that evoke a sense of place, with different flavor profiles and textures. The moment they overlap on your palate, an exquisite marriage is born. Even more interesting is that one of those two leading ingredients is always a vegetable. Vegetables are not mere supporting players here; they stand proudly as true protagonists, creating an impression reminiscent of kaiseki cuisine as well. I found myself thinking: “Japanese-French” is indeed a perfect name for it. For wine, I chose a Côtes du Rhône white made with Grenache Blanc; its dry richness and fruitiness paired beautifully with the food. I’ve had my share of French cuisine both in Japan and abroad, but I may never have been moved quite like this before. It never felt heavy; instead, subtle hidden accents throughout created deep lingering finishes. It was truly outstanding. I’m told that when the seasons change, the menu will be completely renewed as well. That means I’ll have to come back again—one more thing to look forward to. One final request: As people who want to start with “a beer for now” as soon as we arrive at an Accommodation, we’d be even happier if getting access to beer were just a little easier. Please consider it.

Finding a Hotel when traveling with a dog can be quite difficult, but Shikisou was very dog-friendly and comfortable to stay at. We booked two Rooms, and it was very easy to go back and forth between them, which made our stay even better. We were surprised by how much food was served—more than we expected. Everything was delicious. As for the bath, which we were also looking forward to, it was taken over by day-use visitors, and we were met with some complaints. We went to bathe around 9:00 p.m., and I assume they were locals. Even though we wanted to relax in the Onsen after a long trip, it felt uncomfortable, so we ended up leaving early. That is the only reason for the lower rating.

During this Go To Travel campaign, I stayed at about 13 properties, and the meals here were the best—just as you’d expect from a kaiseki Ryokan. Everyone should visit at least once.

I had visited for a day-use bath before, and the water quality and scenery stayed with me, so I decided to stay overnight. All of the dishes were delicious, and I finished everything. The char had no strong taste and was wonderful—enjoying it prepared in various ways was a real treat. I was completely full. The Accommodation felt like coming back to my family home in the countryside—comfortable, quiet, and relaxing. With such clear air and few streetlights, the night sky was filled with beautiful stars. The open-air bath overlooking fresh greenery was outstanding.

The Facility isn’t particularly new, but it has two large public baths and was very comfortable. The Room our family stayed in was quite spacious, and the kids were thrilled. There is no toilet in the Room, but it was just outside and very close. Since it’s not an in-room toilet, we can’t bring a towel every time, so it would be helpful if disposable paper towels for drying hands were available in the restroom. One strange thing: the TV turned on several times even though we hadn’t touched the remote. When it suddenly turned on in the middle of the night while we were sleeping, it woke us up.

We stayed for three to four days from the holiday period into the weekdays. We informed them in advance about a food allergy, and they kindly accommodated us. They seem to be running the place with a small team, so they looked very busy, but all the staff were cheerful, kind, and served us with smiles. The private family bath in the annex for day-use visitors was a nice change of pace, but the slightly hot Onsen in the main building was wonderful. We would like to visit again if we have the chance.

I stayed for two nights and was very satisfied. The Room was clean, and the Onsen is separated into areas for the general public and for guests; the Onsen itself is excellent. All staff are kind and courteous, and the meals were outstanding as well. I will definitely stay here again—absolutely.

I stayed one night in the larger of the two Accommodation rooms. The Room is in one of two lodging buildings located slightly uphill from the reception and the private day-use Onsen area. The Onsen is about the size shown in the photos (around three tatami mats), with fresh hot water continuously flowing in. The Onsen room is separated from the outside by plastic shoji screens; when you open them all, you can enjoy the outdoor view like an open-air bath, soaking in an airy atmosphere while listening to birdsong. There is a ledge inside along the edge of the tub at a height you can sit on, so you can even lie back while bathing. Honestly, it feels unbelievably good! The shoji screens can also be locked, so it feels safe at night. 　There is also a balcony, and smokers are apparently asked to smoke there. There was absolutely no smell of cigarettes in the Room. The refrigerator includes a freezer compartment, and there is also a microwave and toaster oven. There didn’t seem to be anywhere nearby to eat, so we brought frozen meals for both dinner and breakfast, heated them in the microwave, and ate in the Room. The refrigerator had two free 500 mL bottles each of mineral water and sparkling water. It was nice to be able to hydrate during bathing as well. Two drip coffees are provided free of charge, and there’s also a teapot and tea cups for Japanese tea—excellent service overall. Wi‑Fi was fast and stress-free thanks to an in-room router. 　At night we could hear owls, and in the morning we woke up to birds such as bush warblers—an environment where you can truly enjoy nature. Some online Reviews mentioned that it was “cold,” but besides air conditioning there is also gas heating installed, so I don’t think it would feel cold even in winter. I visited in mid-May; I used cooling during daytime and heating at night on the air conditioner settings, which was comfortable. The bed had a down duvet, and mattress firmness was very comfortable as well—one of the best sleeps I’ve had among many Hotels. 　The hot spring water is clear and colorless with a relatively smooth feel. After arriving I enjoyed long Onsen baths right away, went again after dinner, then briefly before bed. The next day I woke early for another soak right away, then took one more long bath after breakfast. It’s perfect if your goal is simply quiet time soaking in an Onsen. 　This is an Onsen Accommodation I want to stay at again and again.”

Less than a 20-minute drive from Uwajima Station, the property is set in a lush green valley with wonderfully clear air. The calm, attentive staff handle everything from reception to table service. Meals feature creative dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, beautifully presented and just the right amount for someone with a small appetite like me. For drinks, you can enjoy an affordable three-glass tasting set of both wine and sake. The Onsen was quite hot, so I couldn’t soak for long (laugh). It was also a bit disappointing that early-morning bathing wasn’t available.

There are various Onsen, but in my experience, Tsuta Onsen, Kuzu Onsen, and Ohira Onsen are mild and welcoming for everyone. For easy access from the Kanto region, Kuzu Onsen in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture is recommended. At Takasekan in Kuzu Onsen, you can enjoy dishes made with plenty of local ingredients—so many that it might be hard to finish them all. While it may not be gourmet cuisine, everything is delicious. Dinner portions are particularly generous. I visited Kuzu Onsen 11 years ago as well and remember the dessert being delightful at that time too. Including a single piece of fruit would make it even better for those who prefer locally sourced items or lighter options. It’s preferable for leftover food to be handled out of sight rather than at guests' tables. Even part-time staff should ensure thorough cleaning of ashtrays and toilets for an impeccable experience overall.

Both dinner and breakfast were extremely satisfying. The side dishes and rice were delicious, and we ate too much.\nThe Onsen was great, including the outdoor bath, but it was crowded with beachgoers, so visiting in the morning might be better. The indoor bath was almost private, and we could truly relax.\nThe Room was quiet and comfortable, as expected.\nWe recommend this Accommodation more for couples than for families. It’s a place we’d love to return to.

The staff’s heartfelt hospitality. An Onsen that hot-spring lovers can’t resist (the water seems highly therapeutic, but you can’t stay in too long—so even during Golden Week, I was able to enjoy it almost privately). Above all, the food was incredibly delicious—wonderful dishes that felt nourishing and full of nature’s blessings! I’d love to come back just to eat those amazing soba noodles again. (I can’t forget how delicious the warm dipping broth with rich chicken stock was.)

Due to a typhoon, I had to change my pre-hike accommodation at short notice, and I’m glad I stayed here—the Onsen was wonderful, and I was able to rest well for the hike the next day. They also let me bathe after the hike, which was fantastic! If I have the chance, I’d love to stay again.
