More than 160 years ago, founder Kinzo Takimoto opened Noboribetsu Onsen to heal his wife’s skin condition. The waters, passed down through generations since the Edo period, continue to soothe all who come in search of their healing warmth. Guests are welcomed by five spring qualities: sulfur spring, sodium bicarbonate spring, sodium chloride spring, Glauber’s salt (sodium sulfate) spring, and acidic ferrous sulfate (green vitriol) spring. An Accommodation in Awazu Onsen, founded in Yoro 2 (718). Discovered by the monk Taicho Daishi, its sacred spring still flows today. A nationally registered commemorative garden passed down from Kobori Enshu to Sano Toemon. A group of nationally registered tangible cultural properties, masterfully assembled by temple carpenters without a single nail. Time carried on since the monk Garyo, and handed down through 47 generations as guardians of the waters. Thinking at the Tatami Property The novel "Tabibito Misaki" was inspired by a stay at "Yunohamatei." Drawn by the crisp winter sunset, I decided to set the story in Toi. That Property transformed into one adorned entirely with tatami patterns. It became a fragrant, clean, and warm atmosphere. Listening to the sound of waves in the open-air tatami bath, I watched the fishing lights offshore. The Room's private spring bath reflected the moonlight, turning Suruga Bay into an illusory painting. I was overwhelmed by the unprecedented beauty and lost myself in the emotions of travel.
