Narai-juku, with a 400-year history on the Nakasendo, remains as Japan's longest post town, preserving much of its original charm. Located at the midpoint of the 69 stations of the Nakasendo, this post town flourished with many travelers and was affectionately known as "Narai Senken." As we inherit four historical buildings as the Property BYAKU Narai, we have chosen not to give each building a new name. Instead, we decided to return to the "yago" (traditional house names) passed down from the Edo period, such as calling the sake brewery "Suginomori Shuzo," established in 1793 and a symbol of the town, "Toshiyoshiya." The 16 Rooms are unique and diverse, utilizing the structures of the four historical buildings, each with different layouts and purposes. Immerse yourself in spaces that embrace the historical architecture, and experience the history and countless stories these buildings have witnessed over time. We offer a unique stay experience in these traditional houses, distinct from typical Hotel Rooms, where you can feel the essence of a place that has supported various lives and activities for generations.

Zabou, set along the banks of the Fuefuki River, is an adults-only hideaway with 22 rooms, renowned for its tranquility and warm hospitality. The Yugawara Onsen area, celebrated even in the ancient Manyoshu anthology, is renowned as a place where high-quality Onsen waters flow. Surrounded by famous hot springs, scenic views of the sea and mountains, and abundant local ingredients, it has long been cherished as a destination for leisure and relaxation. In particular, from the mid-Meiji period, many literary figures such as Doppo Kunikida, Natsume Soseki, Akiko Yosano, and Junichiro Tanizaki visited, fostering its development as a place for creativity and camaraderie. The history of Fujiya Ryokan is long-standing, with records indicating that its predecessor, an Onsen inn, existed as far back as the late Edo period. In fact, buildings from the end of the Edo era remained until 1968. According to the "Yugawara Guide" published in 1918, Fujiya Ryokan began as an Onsen Ryokan in 1876, and at the time, it was poetically named "Shuhoen." Crossing the Nagahashi Bridge over the Fujiki River, visitors would find a spacious property with pavilions and annexes, where flowers bloomed year-round. During the Meiji era, Fujiya Ryokan, Itoya Ryokan, Nakanishi Ryokan, and Amanoya were said to have formed a beautiful landscape with their main buildings, annexes, and other structures nestled amidst rich natural surroundings and gardens.

Though the surface of the water changes from moment to moment, the hot spring continues to flow abundantly beyond time. Its presence recalls Basho’s teaching of “Fueki Ryuko”—that the unchanging and the ever-changing share the same source. Since receiving our charge from Gen’emon Araya, head steward of the hot spring under the Maeda family of the former Daishoji Domain in Kaga, we have carried forward—day by day in our work—the essence of what must remain unchanged and what should evolve. This is the spirit of hospitality our Accommodation hopes to nurture for generations to come.

A hidden wooden accommodation located deep in Yunishigawa Onsen offers natural flowing hot spring open-air baths and private open-air baths. The "Bokyotei," a relocated traditional house over 80 years old, is perfect for group stays and features its own private open-air bath.
