"Kinokawa Onsen Registered Tangible Cultural Property Inn Mikiyama" is a Japanese Ryokan with a 300-year history, located in the heart of the nostalgic Japanese Onsen town, Kinokawa Onsen. Renowned author Naoya Shiga made this Property his regular stay, where his famous short story "At Kinosaki" was born. The wooden architecture, built in 1927 and recognized as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan, along with a 300-tsubo Japanese garden, retains its charm. In November 2013, the Property underwent a major renovation of its lobby, dining area, and large public bath, transforming into a modern Japanese Ryokan that blends history with contemporary design.From the Room's veranda, guests can enjoy the changing seasons in the garden, or lose themselves in a book in the library. The property served as the setting for the famous work 'Snow Country'. Nara Hotel, with a proud history and tradition spanning more than 100 years, is located on a scenic hill in Nara Park and adjoins the former Daijoin Garden, a designated cultural property. The main building features a tiled roof and is built in cypress wood in the style of a Momoyama palace. Its interior blends Japanese and Western design, evoking the atmosphere of a royal residence.

A keyaki-wood Onsen Ryokan—beloved by Kenji Miyazawa and Torahiko Tamiya—crafted entirely from zelkova, a style that can no longer be recreated today. The historic Namari Onsen, first opened around 600 years ago, offers exceptionally high-quality waters recognized by selections such as “New Japan’s 100 Famous Hot Springs,” “Japan’s 100 Famous Hot Springs,” and “Japan’s Onsen Heritage.” Unusually even among well-known hot spring areas, the property has five source springs, and all four baths on site are luxurious 100% free-flowing natural spring water (kakenagashi). It is also known as “Namari-no-Yu,” featured in Kenji Miyazawa’s masterpiece *The Bears of Nametoko Mountain*, making this a special Accommodation where the story’s world and a historic Onsen come together. In 2025, the main building—of outstanding historical value—was designated a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property, allowing you to fully enjoy the beauty of traditional Japanese architecture as well. In particular, we highly recommend the 100% natural self-springing rock bath “Hakuen-no-Yu,” said to be Japan’s deepest—a superb bath that warms you through to your core.

"Shimazaki Toson Yukari no Yado Itoya" is a Ryokan established in 1888, located at the entrance of Manyo Park in the center of Yugawara Onsen. It was at this Property where Shimazaki Toson developed the concept for his masterpiece "Before the Dawn," and even today, his manuscripts and personal belongings remain preserved. Since ancient times, the Ryokan has been beloved as a regular stay for literary and artistic figures such as Duke Tokudaiji, Seiki Kuroda, Encho, and Takeo Arishima. Additionally, the February 26 Incident of 1936, where soldiers of the Azabu First Regiment under Captain Kono attacked Baron Nobuaki Makino, who was staying at the Property, remains a significant historical event.

The Yugawara Onsen area, celebrated even in the ancient Manyoshu anthology, is renowned as a place where high-quality Onsen waters flow. Surrounded by famous hot springs, scenic views of the sea and mountains, and abundant local ingredients, it has long been cherished as a destination for leisure and relaxation. In particular, from the mid-Meiji period, many literary figures such as Doppo Kunikida, Natsume Soseki, Akiko Yosano, and Junichiro Tanizaki visited, fostering its development as a place for creativity and camaraderie. The history of Fujiya Ryokan is long-standing, with records indicating that its predecessor, an Onsen inn, existed as far back as the late Edo period. In fact, buildings from the end of the Edo era remained until 1968. According to the "Yugawara Guide" published in 1918, Fujiya Ryokan began as an Onsen Ryokan in 1876, and at the time, it was poetically named "Shuhoen." Crossing the Nagahashi Bridge over the Fujiki River, visitors would find a spacious property with pavilions and annexes, where flowers bloomed year-round. During the Meiji era, Fujiya Ryokan, Itoya Ryokan, Nakanishi Ryokan, and Amanoya were said to have formed a beautiful landscape with their main buildings, annexes, and other structures nestled amidst rich natural surroundings and gardens.

Nakadanaso was founded in 1898. A secluded Accommodation in Komoro, Shinshu, with ties to the literary master Toson Shimazaki. Inspired by the founder’s vision, the building is wooden throughout, offering the warmth of natural timber. Our natural Onsen, fed directly from our own source and flowing freely, is known for its gentle, silky feel and skin-beautifying qualities.
