“Wine & Accommodation Chitose” was reborn in 2000 as an Onsen Accommodation where you can enjoy wine, following the renovation of the long-established Ryokan “Chitose Ryokan,” which has welcomed guests since the mid-Edo period. As the owner is a winemaker, our cellar houses 20,000 bottles—especially from France’s Burgundy region. Our cuisine features local ingredients from Tango whenever possible, highlighting their natural flavors while pairing beautifully with wine. We also pay close attention to every detail in each guest room’s furnishings, blending Japanese and Western styles, modern and retro elements to express owner Hirotaka Yamazaki’s unique vision.

"Sowaka" is a Sanskrit word from India meaning "happiness be with you." Often used at the end of Buddhist scriptures, this blessing resonates as both nostalgic and fresh, blending seamlessly into Kyoto, a city rich with Buddhist temples. A traditional Japanese Ryokan, "Ryokan Tsurugata," where you can fully immerse yourself in the historic charm of Kurashiki. Located in the heart of the Bikan Historical Quarter, this distinguished Ryokan boasts a history spanning approximately 280 years. Despite its modest size, it retains traces of its prosperous past in every corner. Enjoy exquisite dishes prepared by our head chef using fresh seafood from Seto Inland Sea and local ingredients, served in the comfort of your Room. An evening stroll through the serene Bikan Historical Quarter after dinner is also highly recommended.

In the late Edo period, in the tenth year of Tenpō (1839), Izutsu-an was established as an inn for travelers and monks visiting Higashi Honganji, the head temple of the Jōdo Shinshū sect. Since then, for over 170 years, we have cherished Kyoto's traditions while providing the best hospitality of the times. This area, where Higashiyama Roku is located, is called "Rokuhara," and nearby are Rokuharamitsu-ji Temple, Rokkaku-no-Tsuji, and Rokuhara Chinko-ji Temple. A Kyo-machiya, completed in Taisho 3 (1914), has been carefully restored by skilled craftsmen, preserving its original exterior. Inside the building, features such as fittings and transoms, which have been cherished by generations of owners, reflect over 100 years of history. We have created a serene space where guests staying at the Property can also feel a connection to the time when the building was originally constructed. The Rooms at Higashiyama Roku have been designed under the supervision of washi paper designer Eriko Horiki, who created washi light walls and lighting, offering a space where guests can enjoy the subtle shadows, the charm, and the transitions of a machiya. The lighting and Shigaraki ware round bathtubs, supervised by washi designer Eriko Horiki, as well as the noren (curtain) featuring calligraphy by Hina Aoyagi, the director of the Hokuriku Calligraphy Institute, are just some of the carefully curated details found throughout.

It was the first in Kyushu to be designated as an "Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings." We have transformed these historic samurai residences into luxurious and clean Properties. Fully renovated, they offer spacious and relaxing environments. Katsume-tei is a Property in the style of a samurai residence, famous for its karesansui-style garden, designated as a scenic spot by Miyazaki Prefecture. Goya-tei is a Property converted from the nagaya-mon gate of a mid-level retainer's residence. In the doma (earthen floor area), a modern kitchen Facility coexists with a traditional Japanese kamado stove called "Okudosan." Perched on a hill, the "Castle Town View Sauna" is now OPEN!
