Thinking at the Tatami Property The novel "Tabibito Misaki" was inspired by a stay at "Yunohamatei." Drawn by the crisp winter sunset, I decided to set the story in Toi. That Property transformed into one adorned entirely with tatami patterns. It became a fragrant, clean, and warm atmosphere. Listening to the sound of waves in the open-air tatami bath, I watched the fishing lights offshore. The Room's private spring bath reflected the moonlight, turning Suruga Bay into an illusory painting. I was overwhelmed by the unprecedented beauty and lost myself in the emotions of travel. If life is a journey, such tranquility would be ideal. At the "Tatami Property," travelers will surely feel the same. - Akira Sasakura (Author)

A new encounter, a single story. Kanbayashi Hotel Senjukaku. The story began with an encounter. It was in 1929 (Showa 4) when the first president of Nagano Electric Railway, Tohei Kozu, met Lieutenant Helseth from Norway. This meeting in Kanbayashi brought together European and Japanese cultures, creating an entirely new culture or space. It was a groundbreaking event where the culture of a Western-style Hotel was incorporated into a traditional Japanese-style Ryokan for the first time. Furthermore, this encounter became the prologue to the development of Kanbayashi Onsen and Shiga Kogen, now renowned as one of Japan's leading international resorts.

We want our guests to enjoy a truly relaxing time at their own pace. With this heartfelt wish, the current Sansuikaku accommodation has been carefully built over time. The old wooden structure, built in the early Showa era, carries both charm and imperfections in equal measure. You may feel a slight draft through the wooden-framed windows, notice low lintels standing proudly, or hear the stairs creak apologetically underfoot. If you can appreciate these as part of its charm, it would bring us great joy and gratitude. Over the years to come, we plan to gradually make improvements while preserving the unique qualities that make this building special.
