Since its establishment by Kobo Daishi Kukai during the Heian period, Mount Koya has transcended all sects and continued to nurture its history as the general bodhi site of Japan. It's like opening a giant time capsule. That was the impression when we first entered to begin the restoration of this accommodation. This building once served as a "Honjin," a resting place for the Matsumoto feudal lord traveling to Edo during the Sankin-kotai system. Over 100 years, it has accumulated remnants from various eras, packed tightly within its walls. As we carefully uncovered these layers with the help of local residents, the essence and potential of this accommodation began to reveal themselves.The cultural figures who passed through here, and those who warmly welcomed them with heartfelt hospitality. An old hearth unexpectedly discovered when removing floorboards—when its fire is lit again after all these years, this Honjin will come alive once more. Perhaps this space has been waiting for someone all along. In the first year of Ansei (1854), the founder of our Property, Iwakuniya Sobei, received permission from the magistrate's office to develop the area. He built a bridge over the Momiji River in front of the Property and established a teahouse by the stream as a resting place for travelers. This marked the beginning of "Miyajima no Yado Iwaso." Later, the bustling popularity continued, and the Property officially opened as a Ryokan in the early Meiji period. The main entrance building dates back to 1892 (Meiji 25), and the lobby was constructed during renovations in 1981 (Showa 56). Today, we draw natural Onsen, a rarity on the island, and offer accommodations in the main building, new building, and detached rooms. As a Ryokan nestled within a national park, we strive daily to ensure our guests can relax and enjoy their stay.

A new villa, "Awaji Hamarikyu Besso Takumi," stands on the north side of the classic Japanese resort Awaji Hamarikyu, offering a new charm. While maintaining the beautiful sunset and scenic Keino Matsubara, this property offers an upgraded stay experience. Although there are only 17 rooms in total, each room is equipped with an open-air bath filled with Uzushio Onsen Ten no Yu. There are also two loft rooms and rooms up to 111 square meters that can comfortably accommodate three generations of travelers, providing room types to meet various customer needs.
