Here, you will find a world once cherished by an ancient empress as an ideal paradise—a place where sky, sea, and land come together in strength and beauty. All of our hospitality is offered so you can feel the richness of living in harmony with the great nature passed down through generations, and so you may spend an unchanging “time for the heart” that endures through eternity. The origin of Tanpei— It began when master carpenter Heikichi Shimoda welcomed guests and fellow craftsmen, and in 1868 he opened a culinary business. Skilled in traditional ink-line marking, Heikichi was known locally as “Sumiya no Hei-san” (“Hei from the ink shop”). From this nickname came the house name Tanpei, later renamed “Tanpei,” and it has since been operated as the oldest Accommodation in Tango Town to this day. The spirit of hospitality of “Sumiya no Hei-san” has been passed down through six generations and continues today.
