Over a thousand years since its opening... "Atsumi Onsen" continues to evoke nostalgia and tranquility of Japan's original landscapes. Mankokuya has preserved the generosity of nature and the culture of Atsumi for over three hundred years since its establishment.

In the first year of Ansei (1854), the founder of our Property, Iwakuniya Sobei, received permission from the magistrate's office to develop the area. He built a bridge over the Momiji River in front of the Property and established a teahouse by the stream as a resting place for travelers. This marked the beginning of "Miyajima no Yado Iwaso." Later, the bustling popularity continued, and the Property officially opened as a Ryokan in the early Meiji period. The main entrance building dates back to 1892 (Meiji 25), and the lobby was constructed during renovations in 1981 (Showa 56). Today, we draw natural Onsen, a rarity on the island, and offer accommodations in the main building, new building, and detached rooms. As a Ryokan nestled within a national park, we strive daily to ensure our guests can relax and enjoy their stay.

Perched 60 meters above sea level on the heights of Hiraiso Cape, surrounded by Ishikari Bay, you can take in sweeping views of the endless blue sea and sky, with a full panorama of Otaru Bay and downtown Otaru spread out below. Ginrinso, a historic herring mansion and ryotei-style Accommodation with Onsen, is regarded as a representative example of fishery architecture. It was originally built as the residence of a major fishing magnate in Yoichi, once famed at the base of the Shakotan Peninsula as a prosperous herring fishing ground. Its grand yet elegant presence has only grown more dignified over more than 140 years since its founding, and it is now counted among “Hokkaido’s 100 Cultural Properties.” While preserving its traditional exterior and furnishings as faithfully as possible, we have enhanced our modern Facilities to pursue even greater comfort and functionality. In the rear garden overlooking the Sea of Japan, we have newly added an open-air rock bath rich in refined charm; reborn under the name “Hiraiso Onsen,” we begin anew as one of Otaru’s newest tourist attractions.

"由布の彩 YADOYA おおはし" is a property quietly nestled in the rich natural surroundings of Yufuin, just a 5-minute drive from Yufuin Station. Spanning 3300 tsubo, all accommodations are standalone units. Each unit features an open-air bath and an indoor bath. The 24-hour accessible private open-air and indoor baths are fed by the natural hot spring source of Yufuin Onsen. Enjoy a tranquil and soothing moment.

Noto Hyakurakusou invites you to unwind in its “five private baths,” featuring a hand-dug “cave bath” 30 meters underground, an “observation bath” overlooking the ever-changing scenery of Kujuku Bay, and a 100㎡ reservable bath complete with a 120 cm-deep standing bath and sauna. Enjoy the soothing benefits of Noto deep-sea water for deep relaxation of both body and mind. The Horiuchi family once flourished as coastal shipping merchants who traveled by boat throughout Japan. Today, Azumi Setoda has inherited their former home, the “Former Horiuchi Residence,” and reimagined it as a Ryokan.A Seto Inland Sea journey in a 140-year-old merchant mansion Azumi Setoda was born from the legacy of the Horiuchi family, prominent merchants who prospered in Setoda through salt production and maritime trade. A Japanese-modern Property opened in 2017. In addition to Kinsen, we also have our own Ginsen source, making it one of the few Properties where you can enjoy both Kinsen and Ginsen.
